Baldrick…Stu what can I say…I always knew that you were ‘shot away’, and your latest
tale confirms this.
I don’t think even I would have come up with a hair brained scheme like that…even under the influence.
Keep taking the tablets mate.
Happy Birthday Mappo bet you wish you were only 40. Anyway reading Balders story I to have fond memories of Roanne as I once got week ended there but I was subbing for FA at the time., I had a scania which over heated and the end result was that a recon rad was the order of the day and I had my old man with me who could be a pain in the ■■■■■■ but he spoke fluent French which was very helpful on this occasion any way we were humped up in this little hotel very modest though until it was fixed we then moved on to load near Bordeaux with hides and this was rope a sheet job as well. As Balders said all the good ideas don’t always work out even if they seem great at the start.
A similar tale to Balders was when Wee Jock who was a sandwich short of a picnic tipped in GIB and went on the road to Almeria parked up and went to a restaurant with a fellow Dutch driver for nourishment, on his return he discovered two hitch hikers asleep in the back of the frigo as the back door had been left open to show there was no cargo on board. He rang me at my expense at some stupid hour to enquire as to what he should do, so I instructed him to shut the door and put the fridge on minus 25 and teach them a lesson and to let them out after 3 hours. He took no notice of my instructions and went and gently woke them up and asked them to leave at which point they got annoyed and were not best pleased, Jock would have been better to have followed my advise as he would not have had to ask them to vacate the trailer doing it my way and they wouldn’t try that stunt again, cheers Buzzer.
Hope you are having a good day, your ears must have been burning this morning about 5.15 am ! I had stopped for a coffee at the Family Services just south of junction 9 on the M40 standing in the shop waiting I see a guy come in,he hadn’t seen me so quick as a flash I say to him “Is the Cenis open mate” his reply I cannot put on here It was no other than our old mate “Winky” !! needless to say I was a bit late for my tip in Leicester while we covered some k’s and your name was mentioned several times

Dear old Winkie…if anyone sees him give him my best wishes…I have no trucking memories of him… Only being 14 as lads in Droxford. His Mum used to give us ■■■■ ( Players No: 6 ) and feed us … That’s coming up to 45 years ago now…Scary. I remember us both having designs on the Vicars daughter… I think I won that bet, was it Rachel? … And the Shoe in Exton… a great pub… White Horse In Droxford
On the old A32… That road was the main route to Pompey before the M3■■ Up through Wickham … I remember one of MMD’s Atkis going over on the S bend after Hoads Hill in the dip?..Think they straightened that road out later on.
My old Mum worked in the Bucks Head at Meonstoke / Corhampton by the river…
Ok … JD we’ve run out of truck A To Z… Let’s go to pubs. Anglesea Inn is the starter… Kings Head Wickham will be halfway…which reminds me of…RK Crisp… There was a bloke used to park in Wickham Square… late 60’s . A Low Loader with drums on…Mick someone? lived in the Circle…and told me he was doing Middlle East… That true boys… ■■?
Any old Crisp Drivers on this forum??
Chickens arrived today!!
Good idea A to Z of pubs Balders so Anglesea is the first plus any other contributions, should not be a problem on this thread we will be flooded with posts, We will go on to " B " tomorrow, cheers Buzzer.
Being teetotal my input into local boozers will be limited!
Back in the early 80’s I was lucky enough, as 23 yr old, to be offered a job driving tankers for the Clapcott bros. Running out of their depot in Nursling it was a bit of a culture shock as I had just left a job where I had a fairly new F7 and here I was confronted with the ERF A-series.
I have seen things written about the Clapcott family on this thread but i think most of it is hearsay.
I found all the brothers to be very nice people and I had a lot of respect for them. “Old man Clapcott” was a bit of a tyrant, he always made the tea in the Parkstone depot, he wouldn’t tell the lads until it was only lukewarm, that way they could return to work quicker!
On to " B " and the one I occasionally visited when a kid with my parents was the Bell Inn at Brook, always remember they had a monkey in a cage in the garden and you didn’t get to close with your 4d packet of smiths crisps or he would ■■■■■■ them as quick as that, cheers Buzzer.
Hi Buzzer “B” is also for The Bassett and I remember being taken there as a kid and they had a Bear in a glass case out back ! But he wouldn’t nick your crisps cos he was stuffed !!
