Hi all we took over the yard in Andersons Road from LTS it was owned by the council we put up a new pallesade fence first and then put up a new workshop as in those days we did in house repairs. We also resurfaced part of the yard as it was a mess but we were there for ten years, we moved to Segensworth in 2001 and Anderson Road was redeveloped, cheers Buzzer.

Baldrick1953:
A Mary Hopkin thing…Those roads we used to drive…Mt Ceninis, Frejus etc … before the tunnels… or to avoid the tunnels…to save money for the Boss…Circa Rawlings Cabmont JD Etc…Anyone have stories of the old coast road to the Vent via Monaco…
Funny you should mention that Balders I remember a story about Steve Cherret aka “Rocky” an old driver from the past for us who was in a town along that coast road not sure which one though, I think he was doing groupage deliveries but don’t know who he was driving for, anyway he had to pull up at some traffic lights and it is said he was stationary for at least three sets of green to go lights but he never moved much to the annoyance of the vehicles behind him with much horn blowing as you can imagine, turns out that he could see over the high hedge from his vantage point in the drivers seat and there were apparently two lovely young woman enjoying a game of tennis, not unusual you may think only these two were ■■■■■■■ so an understandable delay don’t you think ! another Mary Hopkin moment cheers Buzzer.
Ha!! very good… I too have a traffic light related story…
Working for Cabmont in about '77 me and another driver known to most on here I think, were charged with taking two loads of newsprint on drums, ex Sittingbourne paper mills.
Destination Roanne , both in Berliets. I think we shipped Le Havre but can’t remember… We went the whole way on non toll roads obviously! The old RN 7, is still one of my favourite routes even now.
Arriving at our tip at 8 o’clock one fine morning we were informed that the whole factory was " En Greve "… ( Unusual for France I know ) Later that morning Tim Allen ( Son of Frank and MD ) arrived by car on a pre arranged grease the wheels visit. We all went out for lunch, Tim left and me and my mate embarked on a pub crawl…
We ended up in the centre of Roanne about Midnight. 10k’s away from the factory and the trucks. We started to walk ( or stagger ) in that general direction… it was a very cold night and we weren’t best dressed for a long hike.
We came upon an artic parked in a street with the driver closing the rear tilt sheet and obviously preparing to set off…
Within two drink befuddled minutes I had hatched a plan ( A cunning plan baldrick ). We would stand on the under run bar at the back , hold on to the bungee cords , get a free ride and step off at the set of lights near our destination…
My partner in crime thought that was brilliant ( I told you drink had been taken! )
We climbed aboard and tensed ourselves for the off…As we gathered speed and approached the first junction and lights, I realised there was a tiny flaw in all this… Traffic Lights only flash orange at night and there’s no obligation to stop if road is clear ( that was the case then, not sure now )…
Judging by engine noise etc we were now in high 7th ish and heading out to the dual carriageway… We had frantic shouted words about our predicament , but at this point my oppos bungee strap broke and I looked over my shoulder to see him tumbling arse over ■■■ into the gutter…
I realised that i had to bail out soon,( before our unwitting chauffeur got through the box ) so I let go and stepped off…
I wouldn’t reccomend it! We ending up getting treated by the Pompiers and then to hospital . Cuts and bruises , stitches etc…
When the factory got back to work, we were unable to strip out the tilts and rebuild due to our injuries so the factory charged Cabmont for their labour…
As you will imagine Frank was delighted with all this and I think I was on half wages for about a month paying it back.
Don’t try this at home boys…
Hi all today is a special day for some one on here !!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAPPO !
Have a gooden !!
Regards Jimski
