Really I am as old as you Tony…I was 16 at the time! I was an apprentice under Colin Read and thats how I got on the trips.
Great pictures ans stories on these pages I’ve such great memories of the area as mt dad drove in the 70’s for Hall Aggregates/Hales Containers I can remember going to work with him and delivering sand on the Southampton side of the Itchen bridge when it was being built happy days back then
Would love to know if anyone has any pics of any of the local RMC/Halls sites in and around Southampton.
Is it only me that thinks AINACS sells oranges from his farm in Florida to Tropicana?
He does seem to disappear for long periods doesn,t he.
Pat must be in competition with you Gazzer.

Hi John yes it does look like a young Eddie Huntley what year would you say that pic was taken? No clue on the back of the pic, I spoke to Eddie last week will phone him and ask I know he did work for Reeves’ at Four Post Hill but not sure about Yardleys, I think they had a workshop at the bottom of Rockstone Lane/Peterborough Road in Bevois Valley I used to past it on the way to school!!!

Another Meachers ERF pic from Marc’s Scrapbook ThreadRegards Pat
When I used to be parked up on a night out by the baths on Western Esplanade I would hear those ERF’s of Meachers going out on nights, those with the 8cyl Gardners were one of the sweetest sounding motors going.

The advert quotes these ERF’s as being “40 tonners” I wonder if the C40 had the Kirkstall D85 HR axle? The C series we had at Bewick Transport were C38’s and all had the heavy Eaton single reduction which I can only assume didn’t have the same weight classification as the Kirkstall.Cheers Dennis.
