Search Under Way As Girl, 5, Goes Missing
Last Updated 01:41 02/10/2012
A five-year-old girl has gone missing from near her home after she was spotted getting into a light-coloured van that drove off.
April Jones was playing with friends in the mid Wales town of Machynlleth at around 7.30pm on Monday when she went missing.
Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed her disappearance on their Twitter account.
At 10.40pm they posted a statement saying: "We are increasingly concerned for a missing five year old, April, who was last seen playing on her bike in Machynlleth at about 19:30hrs.
“April was seen getting into a light coloured van that drove off.”
Local restaurant owner Razul Islam said many people in the town were out searching for April.
“There are hundreds of people out looking for her,” Mr Islam told Sky News.
“It is such a small town and nearly everyone is out looking for her - I’m shocked that it has happened in a town like this.”
The businessman said he expected the search to continue throughout the night.
Police ask anyone with any information to call them on 101.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful considering this story.
BUT why was a 5year old out at that time by her self? It’s getting darker much earlier in the evenings now. At 7:30 it is pretty dark outside. Why was she out alone??

+1
Me also +1…
I also have concerns for her safety but have to agree it doesn’t seem right that a 5 year old girl was out at such a late time.
Especially at this time of year when the nights draw in much earlier a kid of her age should be in the house getting bathed and ready for bed (school night)
I really do hope that they get her back safely and lock the prick who took her away. I’ve got a 2 year old daughter and there is no way on this planet she’d be out of my sight at that time of night.
My nephew is 5 and he’s ready for bed every night at 7pm. My sister has always had the same routine and he doesn’t know anything different. I can’t imagine him being out playing on his own at that time. Must be awful for her parents to have her vanish off the face of the earth like that.
Just a thought. But I don’t think it right for people to judge the parents of little April, I think they will be going through enough trauma at the moment. I for one couldn’t put into words how I would feel if it was my little girl. Back in the day it was safe for us all to play out. Nowadays you have to wrap your child in a bubble. I’m sure as parents we have all lapsed and let our kids stay out a little longer. I know I have. It’s the sicko who did the kidnapping who should be judged and ■■■■■■ Hung in my opinion. No one expects this to happen. However the world we live in nowadays is ■■■■■■…along with the 9 out of 10 people in it…
She was after all playing ‘with friends’.Parents may have checked seconds before the abduction.Quiet town, safety in numbers? We don’t know!I really hope(as we all do) that she is found safe and well.It would be nice to think that the person(s) in the van could be locked in a room with all the mothers. Not the fathers-that would be far too quick.

I believe she was with friends. Also, it would only just have been getting dark, sunset being over 15 minutes later in west Wales than in London.
Just hope she’s found safe and well although you would have to say things don’t look good at the mo.

My Kids are at home now (7pm) one 10 and one 7 years old
and I live in a cul de Sac in a very small village so everyone knows everyone else- strangers are spotted straight away- but I would never let mine out after dark.
This is every parents nightmare- giving the kids the independence to grow up being self reliant and confident- and balancing that by keeping them safe - if anyone one has the answer let me know !

Wait till they go clubbing, you get up at 02.00 to use the toilet and they’re still not home and then you can’t go back to sleep till you hear them come through that front door.
