martian

green456:
martian

well he definetly not from this planet, every one wants a 730 v8 top line and he want a leyland :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ,just think of the poor driver he gives it too, some birthday present that is

For the benefit of you civvies, THIS is a Leyland Martian…

… beloved of ex- R.E.M.E bods like myself. Lovely bit of kit, and a lot easier to drive than its archaic appearance might suggest.

Rolls-Royce engine BTW… PETROL! :open_mouth:

Martian, BTW, refers to Mars, the Roman god of war rather than little green men.

Hi gg,

When I first saw this post, I’ll own up that I thought the OP meant a Leyland Marathon.

Cheers for that mate, I’ve learned something.

Jesus!!!..out of interest, WTF do you intend to do with a beast like that!! :open_mouth:

Brinks Mat and the O2 diamond job has already been done!

Hhhmmmm, mind you, according to our illustrious leaders, the Royal Mint are supposed to be printing a shed load of new money to bail out the country!! :open_mouth:

Would make a change from a couple of Transits and a Ford Granada

Remember our QM dept at 5 Hy Regt RA had 1 of these beasts in Hildesheim back in early 80’s, it would literally go anywhere and never remember it getting stuck as it roamed round Hohne ranges delivering our scran and ammo. Dont recall it being petrol tho, can’t imagine the cost of even firing it up these days if it is. Good luck, am sure one or two still be around.

Leighton lad, what’s your budget? (PM if you like).

Are you looking for a Martian with original Rolls Royce B80/81 eight cylinder inline petrol engine or a diesel conversion?

Are we allowed to know its intended use?

hi thanks for the comments both constructive and ribald… the reason i want one is that i operate heavy plant in soggy conditions and the recovery unit i have isnt a patch on the performance of the martian or militant… if the guy who asks about my budget has a link to one i would be most interested in whats on offer … as regards the question of power unit … ideally it should have the leyland diesel the roller petrol is just a bit too thirsty and all my profits would literally go up in smoke

Panes recovery in Upton upon Severn operate a few old time wreckers and cranes, and have done for years. Give them a ring, they might know if there’s one going.

There was a Militant stood beside the A127 at Dunton where they stand tractors and dumpers for sale on the turf farm. It was earlier this year but I think it has gone now.

There is no obvious sign with a name there so I can’t even tell you who sells the stuff. It’s a cold trail, but if you want me to have a good look next time for a name I’ll have a look.

Try asking on milweb.co.uk/home.php

Dunno if any good

Probably as good as new for under 20k

hi all am encouraged by the replies
in fact the martian painted yellow in the shots at local show is just what im looking for
and the panes info will certainly be followed up thanks again for all the interest

Richard Murray in Lowestoft used to have one, but he sold it to a bloke who drove it back to South Wales at a reputed top speed of 28mph!
Try Crouch Recovery of Kibworth. If they haven’t got one, they may be able to point you in the right direction.
A truly awesome machine.
