My dad drove this truck from new, for a company called ROEDENS out of Kings Lynn.
He left after national carriers took over their trucks along with the work.
It was a Marathon 2 , 250 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ gearbox!
I spent many a happy trip in it with him.
Does anyone remember ROEDENS??, red & grey motors, I’ll get some pics off dad and post em on here.

Here’s my dirty old truck from around 87-88.
Hi Crisp , looks like you old Marathon had not been washed in a few months in that photo ? I can see your Cb aerial and looks like you had curtains in the old girl !
how old was she in this shot ? Attached is a shot of a Brs Oxford Marathon which was still working when I started on Brs Oxford in the early 80s , this shot was taken off ebay .
I believe this truck did a number of runs to the Middle East, driver was Johnny Exton

You’re right, hadn’t been cleaned in a while. I think it did have some ropy old curtains in there. Thankfully I never had to spend a night in it. I believe it was a 1977 model. Pretty knackered when I got it but it did the job.
she did do a few trips to the middle east, with me driving her,the last one being to Kuwait City with a load of chocolate, early 80’s,when it was Hillage Haulage

Wasnt the chocolate a bit runny by the time you got there ?
Middle eastern cab by the look of it too,Butlers had 2 if my memory serves me right.
hi, she had the TL12 engine in her,i never had any major problems with it( just a few headaches)like the time in Czechoslovakia when the pump coupling bolt broke and i didn’t have one long enough, then found one right under my nose, the cab tilt bracket on the bottom of the cab,job done.Another time in Belgium with a crack in the sump, took a day to sort because of a bank holiday. The time when the starter packed up and i had to get the air tanks blown up and then a tow to start her.The UJ going in Romania and getting it into Istanbul and sorted there, but later on in Baghdad the back of the gearbox blow out and having to load it onto the back of another one of ours that was tipping there. The brake cable splitting in Turkey and repaired.I could go on with loads of other smaller jobs that i had to do on her but it was all the joys of driving a Leyland Marathon, still apart from one time it came back on the back of a trailer she always got me home
