I had the AEC triangle on my Marathon plus the plastic AEC letters.I went from a Mandator to a Marathon as well,talk about pull and catch pigeons,what a motor!
That Boon Brothers motor looks “well used” Chris. :smiley:

The Marathon I drove had a 250 ■■■■■■■ and would really get a move on but like most Leylands the brakes would frighten the life out of you, I don’t think I’d like to drive one on todays crowded roads!

Any one else remember the gas turbine engined Marathons, we had one on trial when I worked for Shell with BRS and ESSO also trialing them.

Terrific Marathon photos mate. Especially like the Les Sampson motor on the Woolwich ferry. ( well, i presume its the Woolwich ferry ).

In the fifth photo from the top (not the last set of pics but the one before) ,does anyone know what the angled/shaped piece of metal on the door is for?

Was this a standard fit on the M.E. spec motor?
An optional extra for some specific reason?
Or a personalised add-on for something by the firm/driver?

That Sampson Marathon was the first sleeper cab we had at Sampsons it had a 220 rolly poley and was on the Woolwich Ferry driver Fred Allard
but the vehicle was Allan Macs
