I worked for a guy in Kent in the late 90`s that had 4 trucks, 2 x Daf and 2 x Volvo all top spec and LHD.
We used to do fridge work to Spain/Greece and i was wondering if anybody else had the very unfortunate pleasure of driving 1 of this cowboys trucks and all the fun that went with it?

My Dad did a run to Italy for a guy based in dagenham in 1990 , all top of the range new scania’s with all the additional drivers aids that you could think of , but i suppose if your gonna break the law may as well go all in
The crowd I’m thinking of used to sub for the “south London” firm who now own Marshalls.
I’m guessing from your cryptic post that you were expected to “crack on” with the job. To be fair ,back then, many did and as long as the money was in the the bank then the only consideration would have been whether you could hack it. I’m not knocking you but it sounds like it wasn’t your thing.
I spent a couple of years working for “crack on” haulage in the mid 90s and although it never really bothered me I was never caught. However my next job for a reputable Southampton international refrigerated haulier was always by the book and once I got into it the easy life was much more pleasurable.
Yeah, running on cherry is a different ball game altogether.
So come on, name and shame. I probably ran with either yourself or one of your workmates out of Spain around that time.
If on the other hand, the man is still in business, then best keep quiet although I would imagine if that was the case then he’s either upped his game or been so lucky he should have bought a lottery ticket.
Think i know said guy never worked for him but knew him and couple of drivers
If who im thinking of ended up back as od on belgium plates
Another od on similar work was kev from Grimsby had magnum then fh
havnt seen him for years now he was a good laugh and new rb to
And fill up in uk before shipping out i remember that being done but his drivers told everyone it was no secret
saw one in chippenham filling upo after loading turners one friday night
I do remember a guy that drove an fh xl70 from oop north (moodys maybe) we had many a weekend at freds and he used to come out with better escapades than us…park ya truck in restaurant on the Zaragoza road , give man truck keys and truck returns in 90mins then head north with deliveries (sweden i think)
bald bloke:
On a similier theme my mate used to work for Ferryline in the late 80’s to early 90’s and well …
mmm i know couple people also and wow like most doing spain at that time couldnt do it now
no matter the size of company i would say vast majority did a trip a week back then easily with a little help here and there
and cherbourg was a 10 hr drive to irun with no motorways for most back then lol
Well it was a shift from Avonmoth - Sunbilla (time adjustment + couple of hours kip)
As i found out it was common practice then and before but like i said i treated it as experience and once i`d run bent i knew that from then on i was running 99% legal
I remember pre fidge work being weekended in Cherbourg (P&O GBE )and i would park up where i wanted to stay for the weekend there would be trucks flying around all over the place i`d wonder when they had there 24 etc off
