Not when i was driving for him

Cherbourg to Sunbilla seemed to be the normal thing to do back then.Coming back was no different,if you were sat all day loading at a packing house near Almeria, the super market would expect their oranges back in double quick time, and would not be worried if you had put the tacho in on monday am at 7 am,and loaded at 23.00,the agent would say go at 23.00 after loading and book the ferry at an impossible time to do it legal.

Huh, you’d never have caught me doing that!!! (well, I never got caught   ) :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Ross. :sunglasses:

Anyone loading fruit, veg, fresh meat or fish will have done one hits to wherever they were going to or coming from, the real heroes were the ones that did meat or fish down and fruit or veg back up :sunglasses:

I worked for a London based fruit importer and our SOP was that as soon as we were loaded we went to the docks, no matter where we were loading from, southern Italy/Spain/Portugal/off the boat from Greece, it was one hit back. We did that week in, week out, for years, not just the odd one here and there, it was the way the job was :open_mouth:

In those days I was a lot younger, but even so there’s been many a Sunday park up day where I haven’t got out of bed at all, same with the boats to Greece, 36hrs + and I’ve not left the cabin from dock to dock, other times I’ve spent the whole day off or been in the bar from dock to dock on the ■■■■ :sunglasses:

Back in those days men were men though, not only did we work hard and party even harder, we did it in lorries that they wouldn’t use for supermarket deliveries today :unamused:

Amen to that NMM    I’ve slept many a 24 and barely had to time for a meal and shower before cracking on

Tschhh if only we had the luxury of a nice new airconned, auto 460 premium back then :grimacing: :grimacing:

I have a suggestion. Truckertang clearly has no wish to reveal too much on an open forum. How about you send your guesses to him by pm or e-mail ?

You’re 9 days too late Simon :open_mouth:

I think I know who he’s referring too and asking if he had a fancy Volvo FH is hardly going to reveal the man’s identity is it, anyone who knew the lorry would know the man, which was why I asked that specific question, the answer had almost already been given in the previous posts, including the man’s initials :open_mouth:

I remember an article about that truck in one of the magazines. So you’re quite right, only a very few people would have any idea who you’re referring to with that particular question :open_mouth:

Right colour scheme, but wrong truck, wrong man, this particular Volvo was bought and registered in Belgium, at the time the man never had a UK address/bank account/O licence, so was a Belgian on paper :open_mouth:

Even with all that extra information, I bet you that nobody has suddenly worked out who it is, unless they already knew the man :open_mouth:
