Ward & Smiths just as i remember them, especialy the two 88 units in their old yard at london rd oadby, which is now a housing estate, as are most old yards.
The pic of the 141 with the " W " logo on the door always makes me smile when i see it cause it was how John wanted the lorries to look but the old man ( Johns dad ) wouldn’t have it, of course when he passed away it was changed… . Great memories of a top bloke
Cheers Coops…

hi glenn,

regards andrew

Cheers Andrew
Always great to see any of Wardy’s lorries…

As the kids say OMG!!! The good, the bad and the down right bloody ugly!!! (oh and yourself of course!!)  First time I took the F10 out. If I remember rightly, didn’t JW break down and come up later with Jan (oh, and didnt you get a bit of a pull by the girls in blue and try and do the charity thing■■?) Teehee

hello h,
your right and wrong m8.it was the first time out in your f10.but,john broke down on the 2004 anglo-scottish,when the sleeper cabbed buffalo spat it’s dummy out near buxton  .my girls in blue incident was in april 2007 when the welsh owner of a black volvo f16 got caught speeding…twice,in one bloody day! ,hidden camera near skipton and a copper with a gun at shap village, those old 16’s went well though
regards andrew

As usual you are complertely right and I was half way through a bottle of Scotch when I posted!! Of course it was the Buffalo - I remember coming over the brow of a hill in the Mammoth Major and there was John stood on top of the trailer so that people would see him before they saw the wagon. He always seemed to koew what to do for the best.

hello h,
half a bottle of scotch  f…k me h this is trucknet, not the sweeney governor  .i used to love john’s “get you home repairs”,i remember a bit of wood wedged into the alternator on “olga” olg 44l the 110 that w&smith ran many years ago and laterly ran on the show circuit by john,he broke down with it coming from porthcawl back to oadby, inserted the timber,a few zip ties and job done  .only thing was when i saw the same truck 2 years later the timber and ties were all still there!he wasn’t scared  .

Heehee, I remember being at the AEC Rally in 2004 with the Mammoth Major - John got underneath and dragged me with him to show the ‘temporary’ repair he had made to the clutch return arm to get him on a Northern run about 6 years earlier. He was poking it and telling me how he had done the repair last thing at night in a dark yard. I got as far as Nottingham on the way back and the bloody thing snapped off!! He phoned to make sure I got home (actually its probably the best I ever drove it on that journey without a clutch) and called the next morning to see how I was getting on with a replacement part. Class act.

I worked for pinnacle for years I drove the F88 VFP621S and then CNR276T F10 then I had YFP490Y the first Merc 1633 twin turbo in the country then B290JRA a MAN 321, they had 3 16ton mercs 2 17 ton MANs and the first MAN 361 in the country plus a 7.5 ton fiat and a 7.5 tom MAN and a LT35 van that we all use to fight over to go abroad in, the good old days. B752GRC MAN 321 was on the Zeebrugger ferry that went down and my uncle Jeff the curlly hard Jordie was driving it and he is my uncle by marrige and now works for Stobarts bless him, I cannot remember when NT Motors packed in what a impeckable fleet as I remember them spotless. CNR276T I bought when Pinnicle sold it and kept it untill mid 90’s I could not bear to see it go, the F88 was written off in Spain and do not know what happened to the others, the early days were Charlie,Mick,Polly, Kev,Speaky and then much later was colin, Jeff and then I lost touch, I have some pictures but do not know how to get them on here.

How long ago was NT motors in littlethorpe? I lived in Cosby from 81 and only moved to broughton astley 5 years ago and can’t picture them!
As for pm rucks, they went under several times, one of our drivers worked for them right to the end when they’re erf’s looked like they were in palletforces colours. I’ll see if he has any pics when I see him next.
Also pinnacle international freight if it’s the one in narborough, is owned by a friends dad, who himself is a director, I’ll see if he has any, but I’m sure they only really run 7.5’s
hi i drove for pinnacle driving both the fiat and then the man 7.5 was a good mate with jeff meet up with him about 12 months ago by chance good start to my driving career i drove for cavewood transport at broughton astley had 10 years there before going to coates at cosby

Yeah i have an old work colleague who still works for brindleys, drives a very tidy 4 serie 530 v8, sounds just as good as it looks, and indeed goes!
eastcoasttrucker, my friend is Nathan, who would be the bosses son, although i now believe as i havent seen him for a while that he and a partner have brought the ‘old man’ out!
Not sure what vehicles they have themselves anymore, most of the stuff ive seen recently were jap 7.5 tonners, not worth a pic tbh :frowning:

Litt Haul, Pete Little top bloke, used to have 3 black 142s, 2 B regs and an A reg, he sold the 2 B regs and kept the A reg on his own, just before he bought the little green 113 8 legger tipper he used to sub for widdo’s about 10 yrs ago when i was on there, and it was my job to take him southampton on cat, load him an tip him at the docks and he used to buy the breakfast. Always remember i tried to lose him on the A34 east ilsley hills in me 380 ERF, but ya still couldn’t get a ■■■ packet between my trailer and him…
