Hi daibootsy, i remember Illtyd Yhomas, weren’t they white Ivecos with a blue an red stripe and the welsh dragon on the side. I remember coming off one of the last exits on the M4 for swansea, turn left, down a bit of a dual carriageway, start climbing up the hill and wasn’t their yard on the right at the top…
Look forward to the pics of all those day cab B-series erfs.
A few of my friends got there class 1 experience on Braunstone haulage. Their yard was on the A50 at Groby, where scania is now…

Hello Gunnerhesky, I don’t think we are talking about the same Graham. The one who worked for us went to Widdowsons after Perfects shut the Leicester depot and he would be long retired by now. Brian Laywood went to Hercocks for a few years. I didn’t know he finished up with Widdowsons. I wonder if he is still around, Regards, Haddy, Gt.Yarmouth.

Haddy, is the Graham your on about , Graham Summers.
When i started on Widdowsons in 95 there was a Graham summers on there, think he retired in about 96/97 along with Brian Laywood. Both were on 4 wheelers by then… There was a few old ex Hercocks drivers on Widdosons then…

Thats the one mate, Graham Summers, lovely old boy, I hope he is still around although he could be approaching 80 now. Another firm has sprung to mind, Enderby Transport, they used to pull for Norfolk Line out of Yarmouth many years ago. I knew one of their drivers, a dark haired chap and I think he lived close to Stony Cove. Am I ringing any bells? Cheers, Haddy.

It sad one but, Graham Summers took his last trip out a few years ago, the one you don’t return from R.I.P… Enderby Transport were light blue motors from Broughton Astley. Then the moved to coalville called Enderby Lish Transport, then they finished and David Stanley’s, the portakabin movers are in their old yard at Hermitage ind est coalville.

Wow they’ve brightened up my Sunday morning. Memories of a good friend. Its good to see lorries that John saved that are now appearing on the rally scene in new ownership. Gone but certainly not forgotten.

Cracking pics volvof10 & pete359
Ward & Smiths just as i remember them, especialy the two 88 units in their old yard at london rd oadby, which is now a housing estate, as are most old yards.
The pic of the 141 with the " W " logo on the door always makes me smile when i see it cause it was how John wanted the lorries to look but the old man ( Johns dad ) wouldn’t have it, of course when he passed away it was changed… . Great memories of a top bloke
Cheers Coops…
