This picture I believe was took at VW’s Doncaster yard , the driver is definately Ray Waddy and his son who has followed his dad into driving. I have passed this on to ex Coventry driver Brian Evans who will now doubt add some of his memories. Some of you may remember 54H the foden 2 stoke wagon and drag 9 car outfit which was driven by Gordon Farrall, it made so much noise screaming its head off and that was the only way to make it go, Gordon allways had his flask and a full packet of chocolate wholewheat, I’ll see if Gordon has a photo to post

What is Brian Evans up to now days, he must surely have some photo’s.

my Dad drove a new foden 180 wagon and drag which was blue and white for lathams out of oxford rd ,i remember how it was a lot faster than the 150 ,but the heater on my side was still rubbish, mind you i was only a lad ,happy days

Latham’s did change to a dull blue later but I don’t remember any reg.numbers. Foden1 that pic you put up is the Hoyner body. That’s the wagon you see me stood in front of on the pumps at Ryton Reg CTE 616E.

Does anyone know if Lathams ever carried goods on these trailers, this photo shows a Mk2 Hoynor which converts to a flat deck, Silcocks also had a few of these but I don’t think they ever used them on general cargo, some of them were tandem axles with a narrow front axle fitted with a single tyre. In the cargo mode the arms used to come down the outside of these wheels dont know what they could have done if they had a puncture.

Hi Transporterman
I used to carry the odd load on the Foden ridgid with the Hoyner body from Municipal Trailers who built the body & trailer for the Atkis with the 240 Gardners. I took tar boilers from Preston to London then on to Ramsgate for VWs. That’s the truck in foden1s pic further up this page.
Regards Edd.

Hi Edd Didn’t realise Lathams moved any general, it was the best way to do it as the majority of the traffic car wise was north bound
