happy hours ive spent in one of these riding with my Dad Stan Druse working out of oxford rd ,Mark
this is a later pic, must have been the end of the beetle
this looks like a hard worked wagon ,remember one at oxford rd wagon and pup carried about 3 cars
I remember Lathams at Ryton well, old man Latham was a gent, we (Progressive) used to fuel up there sometimes, Mr Latham was generous with the Green Shield stamps and a bar of chocolate for driver and mate, this from the kiosk out on the forecourt. One time I pulled up heading back from north with a few cars from Tile Hill, bottom decks only and Mr Latham said I need favour, I’ve a wagon(of a wagon and drag) in the yard with the top deck stuck, need to have the cars off to fix it, could I drop mine and nose up to the rear end and get them off, no problem and greatly appreciated. I so enjoyed them driving days and would have done it for nothing, but hey the rent needed paying and the family feeding.
I’ve had a read through the previous posts and three names came up that I recognise, Bill Hain was with us at Progressive, Cowley before heading for Ramsgate, then to Bathgate, cracking bloke, always up for a laugh. Ricky Jones also at one time with us at Cowley, wagon and drag (very capable) then became yard manager, wasn’t sure where he went, until now. The other name was Dave Barrows, he was at Progressive Cowley for a while, towards the end of my time there, I remember no one could quite fathom out why, he certainly wasn’t answerable to anyone at the depot not even manager Harry Hopkins.
On here there is mention of Ramsgate, well we ran nights to Manston Airfield for VWs where the VW imports were stored, would that’ve been Lathams pickup point.

Yes they did become part of Cartransport (BRS) in the early 70’s, it caused a lot of ill feeling when redundancies came round a few years later.
Altury, what was Martin’s Brothers name, in the 90’s when I was on for Richard Lawson I delivered to a garage in Belper, or near there, a VW dealer called Lathams, when I went into the office, the walls were absolutley covered in photos of Lathams transporters, going way back and when I asked about them , he told me he was Martins Brother. would be nice to get hold of them and put on here.
Dieseldog Yes Martin was still at scool when I was at Latham’s I used to see him about in scool hols. His brother was Michael and I think he ran a M.A.N agents when Latham’s finished. The old man was Fred Latham he was a great old boss.
