The talk of who is to blame may soon become academic if some pressure group or other get their way, they want the motorist to be accountable for everything.Apparently that is the system in Holland, and they say it works.Something along the lines of how insurance companies automatically attribute blame to the motorist who runs into the back of another.
Knocking a cylist off his bike?
Not to be recommended mate.

Oh God.
Your a professional driver?
I would slam my head against the desk, but if i did this every time there was a comment along these lines, my head would now be collapsed. Probably.
How is it academic? The guy didnt have patience to wait, so he could give extra room, so hit the cyclist. What needs to be academic about that?
Are you trying to attempt to say that cyclists are lower then [zb] in a hole, so its fine to knock a few off? Are you also one of those drivers who goes on about how truck drivers are treated bad aswell?
I am still waiting for someone to answer if they could tell the families and lvoed ones of the cyclist that they knocked off due to lack of patience.
A friend of mine will be in hospital for a long time due to a motorist being impatient and making the wrong decision to go when he should have waited. Already said about him once on this thread.
Oh, how many cyclists also have driving licences? Every cyclist that i ride with has a driving licence, and at least one car.
Ill give someone points if they can tell me what road tax is properly called, and where the funds for roads comes from.
You are all so called ‘professional drivers’ so you must all know this. Many of you go shouting your mouth off about cyclists not paying road tax so dont pay funds for the roads etc, when i dont actually think many do know about road tax.
Is this going to get blanked again then?
Joe, IMO you are having a rant on the wrong site !!
The greatest majority, if not all, the drivers on here are professionals and no matter what their personal VIEWS are about cyclists, they will ACT SAFELY and professionally when they meet them.

The OP asked a question but did not say that they would drive in an unsafe manner to pass them.

IIRC that would be the Vehicle Excise Duty and the road funds would come from the GENERAL TAXATION revenues. Don’t worry about the points they don’t look good on the license.
To the OP how long would it take to resolve the aftermath of an accident both at the scene and in the following weeks and months. Frankly if you can’t see where you will be after the overtaking manoeuvre and have a clear stretch of road to make it on don’t. That would seem to apply to anything moving slower than your vehicle. I can’t think of any thing that I carry that is worth injury to me or anyone else, and who wants to carry the burden of guilt should they kill/maim trying to make a stupid pass?
ady1:
whos to blame if you hit a cyclist of his bike whilst hes riding 2 abreast, surely its his fault , if he hasnt got the common sense to ride in single file on a main road he has to expect the drivers behind to become frustrared ,try to get by and knock him off .
surely hes the one doing the dangerous cycling thats caused the accident not the poor driver whos just trying to do his job![]()
Jesus Christ !! I can’t understand how your brain works. You hit a cyclist and its his fault? Maybe because he makes you frustrated? There’s nothing at all dangerous about cyclists riding two abreast, inconsiderate at times maybe but not dangerous.
Beggars belief !!!

That makes a change then, someone who knows

I Merely reported the contents of a half hour ITV program that I watched a few weeks back,I did not offer any opinion,I suggest that you owe me an apology after your tirade.

‘… common sense…’
It can’t be bought, measured, validated, taught, inherited or lost, etc, etc: In today’s context ‘common sense’ has evolved into a mythical and cliched term with no place within Brown’s diverse society - the one that we all voted for, ie., ‘diverse’ - meaning that it aint common.

No. You should be smart enough to not beleive what you see on the TV, especially not ITV
You should be smart enough to understand the simplistic English that I used in my post,it would not be too difficult for someone with a modest education I would have thought.Nevermind.Because I reported something, that does not imply that I either support or reject it’s content.
I like your definitions Joe, yes indeed POBs are a pain in the backside. I would dearly love to see cyclists (and POBS) be licensed, insured, bikes registered and inspected yearly, but it’s just impractical, how on earth would it be enforced? it’s just pointless, ten to one the Govt, even if they did introduce licences for cycles would include the entitlement in with a car licence anyway. It’s one of those ideas that sounds good down the pub but when you think how it could be done it just founders upon the hard rock of reality. The idea of automatically assigning blame to motorists is ridiculous, ok if you drive into the back of another car that is blatantly your fault, but if you squish a POB who was sat in your blindspot, or did what one did to me today and tried to overtake you as you were turning right, then you should only be held accountable if a proper police investigation decides you were remiss in your actions.
