Hi Kev,
What a great set of picsā¦ thereās enough there to keep us talking for quite a while!!
This one caught my eye and prompts a questionā¦:
kevchalluk:
Is this the same Bellgate that did a lot of Italian work in the 80s?
Iām just wondering because IIRC the Bellgate that I remember were maroon in colour and had an M.A.N. fleet, so can anybody help my fading memory here please?
The one driver I remember from Bellgate is a guy called Tom Bell, who went on to join the firm that I worked for at the time.
Hiya Dave. Tom Bell was working for Armet Carrying the last time I saw him, but Bellgate was formed from John Harrison, Ellerpack and Hewson Brothers.
Paul Oxtoby from our parts worked for them all and then started Bellgate in Holme upon Spalding Moor
Actually that is quite misleading. it was very late when I wrote it.
Hewsons were taken over by Bullens. George Allinson bought Ellerpack and then closed it down. John Harrison stopped running transport and Paul worked for all of those companies from school I think.
As far as I remember Paul bought Bellgate outright after Peckfield, Harrison and Bellgate finished.
One of the Hewsons boss men was Peter Everingham who moved south of the river, his son Mark runs the company now, and āGrandadā Bernard Walmsley worked for them until retiring recently. Bernard was great friends with Alan Horner
^^ My good friend Alan Horner. ^^
Blimey Malc
Iād forgotten all about Peckfieldās.
Ellerpackā¦ now thereās a name from the old Italy days!! I remember Big Dave from Ellerpack.
Iāve just had another look and spotted STS who I remember were one of the few firms that would run South of Rome.
Oh look, a Martiantrux (sic )
