kent transport

Jack Henley ERF taken a good few years ago at one of the first gatherings at Channel Commercials at Ashford a really good get together now no longer held, i do believe the ERF has been sold on and am informed its livery has changed as well. Not so with the immaculate AEC and drag of Alan Firmin, always a treat to see at the shows

Hiya the henley,s ERF lives with another old ERF at smiths transport in stoke on trent. the chap who looks after the trucks is the son of Ken southerton
who was the repair shop forman at ERF. great bloke shouted at everyone but was a wizzard with trucks. kens passed on but many ERF boffs remember him well. The stable mate to henleys ERF has a mural on the diesel tank in remembrance to Ken.IICR the henleys erf is still the same livery and possibly the name changed. its usually on show around the south Cheshire show scene.

Anyone got any pics of the old Barrio trucks… Mick Baldock AKA Splitpins firm from out of Newington?

Mick died back in 97 and the firm didn’t survive under the new management… Sadly, Micks daughter passed away earlier this month (she was my wife) and I would love to have a few pics from when Mick was running things.

It is, unfortunately it is the only Barrio pic I have though.

Ive got a nice callender hanging in my cab, its got loads of old local hauliers on it. One of the photos is of Barrios Scania 142, plus some other old stuff, Phillpotts F12, Hammonds Scanias ,Wm Elvys etc etc. We was going to produce the callender for the local heritage centre but it did’nt work out cost effective so only one ever got made, and yes, thats mine.

Was that Barry Philpotts F12? The one that caught fire? If you ever get chance to scan the pics in and email them I would be delighted to see them…

Two nice shots of the long gone Cliffe plant Volvo F16 heavy haulage outfit

This old 1948 advert takes me back to childhood days, i well remember Albert Chapmans ERF in the splended maroon and red livery with gold lining. Chapmans ran one or two quarries in Kent including one in Dengemarsh road Lydd now part of a watersports centre and two of these 4 wheelers and a six wheeler driven by a guy named Bill Tapp who i got to know in later years as we both worked for Bretts who in fact bought out Chapmans. These were the days of no elf and safty and as kids on a Sunday we used push the narrow gauge tipping trollys up the slope as far as we could and then like bloody maniacs jump in and take ride out to the spoil piles untill we were chased off most of us had a few gravel rashes when they tipped sideways on the move

Was this the outfit that Peter Foley worked for?.
He was also an O/D for Davis Turner.
Unfortunately he passed away in about 1999,but a great friend to know.

These ones ya talking about, there also on the scammel crusader thread, heres the Kent ones :sunglasses:

This outfit always ran tidy lorries,I used to see their Fodens and Scanias on a tip near Dorking in the 90’s.I believe they run Volvos now

Found a few pics from Northfleet Carnival earlier, I’ve posted a few on the LV thread, but this is a pair of Seddon Atkinson 400s that used to be a familiar sight around North Kent at the time.

I’m afraid I don’t think I have any other pics of Bill Wallis’s trucks, but I’m sure Len Valsler must have a few stashed away, he drove a Guy Invicible on a ā€˜D’ plate, then the ā€˜G’ plate Big J.

A couple more oldies a Morris 7 tonner with bulk body operating with John Jempson at rye just over the border and part of the fleet of the long gone Cobbs of Margate brewery

More Kent crusader pics here from the Crusaders thread
