A photo of some of Rod Chapmans from High Broomes Tunbridge Wells BMC tippers Rod was and i believe still is now operating out of Rye Harbour
Rod certainly is - he owns rye wharf on the left just before you get to the houses at the end and hasn’t changed a bit. I know him as I co drive in rally cars and used to sit next to Roy Edwards of Ton Tyres/Ton Hire (Roy and Rod were married/lived with sisters at one time). Rod of course was a great rallycross driver and truck racer.
Thanks Gazza, last i saw Rod was about 9 years ago down at Rye and he was kind enought lend me his albums so there are afew more of his fleet photos to come. I used to follow his racing when he was in kent racing as you say a good agressive driver, Ton Tyres i remember buying some 71/2J wheel rims for my Frogeye sprite back in the late 1960s all good times eh!
cheers

Now that photo was taken I reckon at the old High Brooms brickworks.
The story I was told was Rod ran his trucks out of Pembury, keeping them on the A21 overnight (pre O licence days) — the council wanted them moved but he pleaded poverty so when the old High Brooms brickworks went bust they sold him (for virtually nothing) the land which was basically a hole in the ground.
Running tippers that was just what he wanted so he filled in the hole and built an industrial estate on it - the Chapman Way Industrial Estate as it is now.
Stears from faversham,
are they still running, always running older ERFs mainly on flats…
And Lash transport
white mercs, red writing, think they were from somewhere down the old A2

G,day all
As a new member i did a search for a thread on Kent transport but there appears to not be one dedicated to the subject only a few items that are spread all over the forum, so if you all agree i hope this start will unearth a lot more material. I have been collecting photos and info on kent transport for many years and include haulage, recovery, vans etc in my files i also include companies from east sussex when i can get hold of info. to start the first photo shows one of Colin Ashby late ergos threading its way through the narrow A259 at Dymchurch in the 1970s and a Transcontinental recovery much later on the Medway Bridge works complex, i may be wrong but has this truck something to do with A.I.D recovery
cheers

Heres another one for the Kent thread…It would be nice to see any from the Sittingbourne / Faversham / Sheerness area, there were loads of hauliers from that part of Kent in the 60s & 70s.
How you doing AL, still taking the truck to the shows, i think since we last made contact i had the old Matador which has now gone up to the Lincolnshire area and my mate and i have come down to a K2 Austin that reminds me is your site still up and running
good to hear from you
cheers

One of North Kent Road Freights ERF, the address on the cab says Rainham Essex so where was the kent depot. The photo of the DAF of Ridam Freight Services may fill a little gap in the Sittingbourne area if i remember Len Valsler was kind enough let me copy this shot. Finally a old advert from Bretts of Canterbury
Jack Henley ERF taken a good few years ago at one of the first gatherings at Channel Commercials at Ashford a really good get together now no longer held, i do believe the ERF has been sold on and am informed its livery has changed as well. Not so with the immaculate AEC and drag of Alan Firmin, always a treat to see at the shows
