Hi all, new on hear, thought I’d add a photo of my grandads old 2028 he use to drive for coulling bros back in the day.

Welcome to the site!

Those are great pictures. I love seeing pics of Coulling’s on here since my Nan used to live just down the road from them.

Ben

Hi Ben, thanks to be honest I have loads of Coullings although being a 12/13 year old kid at the time most of them are of the one lorry, hears a general one of there yard though.

Still good photos. I only started taking pics in 2007 so anything from before then is great. Amazing that X871 SKJ and the trailer are brand new in that.

The 6X2 Actros reg was T387 VKJ it was usually coupled to Trl 24/25 as this was my dad’s rig, it came home in 98 if I remember rightly

K303UKP was indeed an ex H.E. Woodcock & Son unit, contract hired to Woodcocks by Twodrive Ltd, a rental company owned by Sparshatts of Kent Ltd

Hi TDL 102 and driver Joe, yeah after he retired I saved up to buy his old wagon for around five years, but I was around two weeks too late it disappeared to Africa I believe, after that I was after what appeared to be it’s brother vehicle a dark blue 2538 reg K308 UKP, was owned by a farm out the back of Canterbury, almost looked like an ex Francis Davis wagon with its colouring but that sadly got stolen, once again I was a few weeks too late :frowning:

Hi Willtrucker1 K308UKP was ex Francis Davis, one of a pair, the other being K307UKP.

Hi Tyreman, uhh that’s cool, I never new about K307. I don’t suppose anyone’s got any photos of either K307 or K308? I always thought K308 looked like a really smart wagon, as a kid walking to Canterbury collage I always enjoyed seeing that going along the ring road.

Another Coulling Bros shot

The DAF’s appeared at Coulling Bros when they was brought out by Town And Country Turf. It was a sad day when Coullings shut as they had been around in my life since the 90s when my dad drove for them, along with the other drivers who always spoke

Yes it defferntly was a sad day Coullings shut there gates, hears a few pic of Blythe Bros another company my grandad use to drive for, he is sat a top the Akinson which he thought was a great lorry.

Is this the same Blythe’s that became W.J>Blythe from Faversham?

Some interesting stuff for Kent drivers on a new thread, here’s the link:

Robert

So Robert, you should recognise the F10 in the last picture on the Garret thread - it’s the one that Simon Wilkinson bought and had the Globetrotter roof fitted. It became Grant Flood’s regular truck (and the Globetrotter roof leaked like a sieve when it rained). I remember that it was a bit lacking in the power department too, I think it was only 290 or 299 BHP . I loaded butter with it once from Goe in Belgium - coming back toward Liege I was into low range on one of the big climbs on the motorway there - it was a proper hill & wind detector.

Good lord: E294 WKO! And from what I remember it even had Grant’s name inscribed on the front, and you can see his name on the picture below. I knew Grant very well in the old days - really good bloke. And that F10 was far and away the best Volvo F10 I ever drove. Before speed-limiters I could do Faversham to Rotherham in under 4.5 hours, tip reload and tip in Loughborough before overnighting at Leicester Forest East services. It was an excellent ‘drive’, that lorry and oddly enough I preferred it to Simon’s more powerful long-haul spec F12. But as you suggest, you really had to drive it to make it go. Here’s a picture of E294 WKO I took while I was driving it: I loaded this trailer in UK and Grant took off to Italy. Robert

The yellow tautliner would have been one of Michael White’s that he bought off (I think their name was) Thompson’s, who were from Broadstairs. They did european removals and packed up in the early 1990’s. I remember pulling one of those trailers myself. Michael used to buy trucks and trailers from anywhere - presumably if the price was right. He ended up with the Garret’s Mercs and some trailers also.
