JWQ Transport

Don’t remember that episode Terry, you sure I was there? Don’t think I’d forget that in a hurry, love to have been there to see that!! I remember when being based at Swindon four of us took portakabins to Essex. One plonker decided to have a whoopsy in one and guess what happened when they offloaded it? Yep, one dollop hit the deck and I was left as the last one to get unloaded. Couldn’t get away quick enough.

Where’s everyone gone■■?

sorry chaps i been on me holls to the usa- but i’ve got a few more pics i can put up- bear with me though!

hello shaw , well i have been working hard(ha ha ha)and young tell has been visiting our colonial cousons he has said that he is posting more pics this weekend, hope you are all well

good afternoon terry finished for weekend ,i got finished at 1,30pm oh and a little correction brian smith was warehouse manager , not transport manager

Hi Everyone ! How are we all doing?? With reference to Brian Smith Paul, sorry I got it wrong and called him the Transport manager and not the Warehouse manager, really, I’m very, very sorry, i feel as if I’ve let You down, me down, my father down, your father down, the entire memories of Jwq down, in short an awful, awful mess. A quick question for you- DID YOU MANAGE TO TYPE OK HOLDING YOUR HANDBAG AT THE SAME BLOODY TIME !! -Right then i think we’ll have a little less sniping from you please! (You know I love you really!)
Anyway let’s have a few more pics eh? On a recent weekend away in Kent I couldn’t not go to dear old Queenborough. There’s by-passes galore but the town has stayed the same and I found Parsonage road straight away. Strange isn’t it? just bricks and mortar but if these bricks and mortar could speak I wonder what stories they’d tell? I personally went to this place for the first time when i was five years old in 1970 with my dad in his bullnose, we ended up having a night out in “Ma’s” digs. I remember the late Tommy Carvath being there as well. These shots were taken in winter 2008.
Please have a look and what memories do you have of The Sheerness Depot??

nice pictures terry , it bought back some memories, pity you couldnt get a shot of the back left hand corner of warehouse after all these years i am sure it would have been repaired, many a headboard has clobbered that corner when doing a u turn ha ha , steve has your mate ask FJF yet ?

my dear terry ,i have been looking at those pictures of sheerness depot thinking something not right ,and its come to me at last, there is only one door on the workshop bay instead of four , the door that is left was for the trailers the garage was extened to take trailers, a small thing i know , but when you have nothing to do for 2 weeks you have to get the facts correct ,and MR BALLARD do you know if MR NORTON is still in cypress and get parfitt on line , he knew the yorkie dialelct :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: come on chaps shape your selves and mark r weres are those pictures

Well, it’s that time again boyos! How are we all? I was in Swindon the other day dropping a friend off and I thought it’s about time some more J.W.Q. pics went up.
Funny how we can remember things from 20 years ago but not where we put the telly box? I haven’t been to Parsonage Road, Stratton St. Margeret for well over 20 years and I went straight to the old place!
Linton and Hirst now long gone but as you can see the buildings are all still there. Personally I have happy memories of L&H and got on with the Swindon drivers well, I remember being loaded by “Curly” several times for Tabushi of Thornaby on Tees several times, invariably then onto ICI at Billingham for a backload. The drivers i can remember are Geof Gales (deceased), Dave “Toddy”, Russell (a Londoner) his wife worked for L&H, Harry Toomer, wee Sammy, 9 to 5 Clive (spent a few nights out with him in Royston after loading at Eternits- good bloke), “laugh and a joke” (Pete), young Mark, Chas of course, Big Bryn and thats about it.
AS for the pics if you look closely HGVs don’t even use the entrance anymore - who’d a thought that! I hope the pics bring back memories for you !
So, come on, tell us all your memories of JWQ Swindon!

Regards, Terry.

Hi Terry,
Nice photos of my present workplace! The APC vans you can see at the bottom of the yard are part of UK Shuttle. We HGV’s have to go round the back via Howard Tenens rear entrance. We are moving to another part of the complex next weekend and Howard Tenens will take over the old L&H area. As for old drivers, Sammy Davidson sadly passed away a couple of years ago, Harry Toomer is a happy retired person, Chas Patterson drives for a firm in the Midlands although still living in Swindon, Russell James and his missus parted years ago and he was jailed for ■■■■■■ a girl in Brighton!! Dear old Curly is still going strong in his eighties and lives round the corner from us, even does occasional light driving jobs. “Young Mark” Matthews married Tina out of the office and their kids are now 20 & 18! Don’t time fly?

hello shaw , do youremember these fine beasts , for 2 points name the driver and location were he was loading and a thanks to bubbleman for picture

Hello EVERYONE and how are you all? Thanks so much Shaw for the Swindon driver updates-so very sad to hear about wee Sammy- great laugh, great bloke. The last I heard of Sammy was when Doughnut was driving for Tescos, Didcot-around '91-'93 era, Sammy was suffering with a real bad back and looked like he was going to be pensioned off, again a smashing bloke. The last I remember of Chas he moved to the Midlands to be closer to the Severn Valley Railway-a great pssion of his, it goes without saying if you see any of these blokes you will give them my regards.
Well as usual I’ve a few pics to show you and for me these are the last Jwq pics I have and ther’re a bit sad really. I only had b/w film in my camera at the time but I guess it add to the overall feel of the shots. These pics were taken in early 1992 abour a year after Jwqs demise. I was working for a certain Carlisle company (I wont mention its name but suffice is to say compared to Jwq they were the biggist shower of s@@t I’ve ever worked for). I broke my heart to see Worton Grange all empty, weeds growing and not a single Jwq lorry in sight, when I think back at the times I spent there, the total hive of activity it was, never being able to park on a Friday night, the laughs and of course the occaision sherbert at The Engineeers arms too. Oh well boys, We’ll always have the memories! Try and envision the yard full and of course- over to you- what are your memories of “the grange”■■?

Hi Guys,
Probably lose my two points, but my guess on the driver would be Martin Willis. Can’t sus the location, help required. If it is Martin he’s added a few pounds since then and lost a fair bit of the barnet.
Does anyone know the whereabouts of any Reading drivers ? Was in touch with Derek Ford until his wife died, then no more contact, and what about big Chris who nearly throttled Bernie McKeown? Anyone know what Bill McKinnon’s doing?
Incidentally it wasn’t until after Q’s folded that we found out Russell James never had an HGV licence, all his documents were falsified. A couple of updates , Ginger Robins is a taxi driver (a large one at that!) and Dave Toddington is in the offices at TDG in South Marston and often talks to Maxime at football.

HELLO EVERYONE AND HOW ARE YOU ■■ In answer to your question about Reading drivers Shaw/Bronzebonio I’m a little sketchy on most of them from your era, but as Jwq closed, I know ‘Haggis’ moved up to Barwell in Leics-he was always up there doing the Gillette Job to Crowfoots Carriers and made friends up there, i met ‘Mad Jock’ from Barwell a few times (nice chap but teetotal…NOT!) do you remember Crowfoots used to run every day?? Lorraine ‘Randy’ Randal married ‘Poppe’ from the Sheerness depot- she divorced and remarried and still lives on the Island. Talking of Sheerness do you remember ‘Pixie’ Pierce?? He worked for the Reading depot for mebbe two years and i think he retired back to Cornwall. Don Slark moved to Devon I believe. ‘Alchy’ Malchy Hawkins went on for B.O.C. Transhield as did Rick Meehan and Bernie the Bolt but I din’t think they’re there any more.Bill Mckinnon divorced from Ros and the last I heard he was working in a music shop in Oxford-did you know he lost his license due to a fit many years ago? Doughnut met a woman and moved all the way to New Zealand. I saw Martin Willis in a B&Q, he lost his license due to a heart attack and was driving a forklift in Courages (the brewery’s closing spring 2010).Sadly Jwq has gone for 19 years now and I haven’t seen any of ‘Q’ sqaudron for years. On a lighter note my dear wife and I are going to see Paul Watson this weekend up in Bridlington-if in time he and his dear wife come back to Reading mebbe we’ll pop in and see you! Take care Boyos, Toodle-Pip - Terry :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Hi Terry,
When did Martin lose his licence? We went to his 50th last year and he was apparently still driving then, he had a heart attack a few years back so has he suffered another one since? Hope you had a good weekend with Paul, you are both welcome here if you want to come this way or perhaps we could meet somewhere perhaps Newbury way or Didcot! I’ll be the old git with grey hair, Max is still blonde!

mr ballard, the picture was at rosekiln lane and i told young terry it was you, but it could have been dave henderson, and we had a very nice weekend i have had to go to the bottle bank ha ha ha

Tautliner Terry, was Bill McKinnon a long tall chap worked a while for Cand B at Beedon?

yes it was mr heath
