Bubbs.

OH BUBBS THANKYOU SOO MUCH for posting that pic of the Bullnose Merc. The memories have come flooding back of time spent with my dad in one of those lorries. One time in particular, it was a Friday afternoon and my Dad was waiting for me outside school, he had a load for the M4 construction, so i think it would,ve been '71/'72 time (■■) I remember the temporary yard, you can still see whats left of it- it’s now allotments, on the main A329 Reading to Wokingham road. It was at a little place called Winnersh, the major landmark today if you’re on the A329 is it’s next door to “Bulldog” mitsubishi garage. How time marches on. Ref the AEC & the bubble shaped Merc, i’ll pick my Dads Brains for more info on the lorries/drivers. Again Thankyou soo very much, regards Terry.

Hey Paul, I upset loads of people, probably that paddy too. The best bloke I peed off was in Tiverton, but that’s another story!! Great photos of those old trucks, especially the bullnose, remember seeing them down Katesgrove Lane when I was driving for Courages. just been talking to Matt Parfitt, trying to get him on line.

Didnt realise it was a lorry park tbh, can remember when the car park at the County Ground was used as a lorry park though.

Indeed i was fitting for National tyres - Marshgate from 78 til 82, “King of the road” in my Leyland Fg  as for spinning the wheel and snapping the valve off - couldnt have been one that i fitted . . . . i always used a torque wrench on those ■■■■■■■ - driver abuse mate
Also used to do a lot for Howard Tenens next door to JWQ/Linton +Hirst -Happy days

HELLO EVERYONE how are you all?? A few bits of info regarding the E reg merc that bubbs posted- this lorry was driven at one stage by my dad, when he had it, it was painted BRS cherry red, so was re-sprayed at some stage. It was bought from a bankrupt firm in London second hand along with two eight leggers, they were painted blue andthey were all less than a year old, my dad hurt his back, was off work for a good while and never got it back. Ref Adrian- my dad remembers him, he only stayed on Jwq a short time and was apparently always taking pics and always had a camera with him.Ready for more pics?? I’ve started off with the oldest shot of Jwq i have. A thought- could this be the oldest surviving pic of Jwq lorries ■■?

Pic 1) This shot was taken around 1966 (look for the D reg.) It was taken at L&H Swindon before the canopy was built! Think about this-how many firms had “Bullnose” Mercs at that time?? The said Merc was driven by George Treadaway and was a regular on the Smart & Brown run up to Spennymoor. All of the lorries were painted Brs cherry red

Pic 2) “Whatever happened to the likely lads?” L- Mr Paul Watson Esq. (or oddball) M- Bryan Smith (Transport Manager) R- Steve Wallace (Warehose/Forklifter)This shot was taken at the 1975 Xmas do, at the Rainbow rooms, Reading.

Pic 3&4) Chas from Swindons new MAN (note only Reading and Swindon on the side-Sheerness had closed by then).

nice pictures terry forget the second one . the atki and mandator are pre 63 i wonder if they were new , and did your dad remember the dennis artics ha ha ha

HI EVERYONE, No pics this time but a dark distant memory has come to light-and needs to be shared. Bronze bonio/Shaw/Mr Bollard might remember this little trip. Four of us Shaw Ballard, Richard Briggs/“Briggsy” driving, with myself and Doughnut riding shotgun were dispatched to Grundons at Ewelm near Wallingford, a McDougals job, with two trailer loads of ice cream in liquid form in foil packets, several packed neatly into card boxes-all out of date, all had to be put in landfill. We duly arrived and started to unload from the side of the tauts into a big digger bucket which when full, would dissapear somewhere to unload it. So far so good. I remember, a box or two had split, thought no more of it, threw the individual foil packets into the BOTTOM of the EMPTY bucket. I then proceded to throw a FULL box with great GUSTO onto the individual packs. This is the point of the story when it all goes wrong-for one of us anyway - the foil packs split- and dear Doughnut looked as if several shire horses had ■■■■■■■■■■ over him from his head to his feet! Aaaah happy days!
Regards Terry.

after my time tell , but typical ■■■■■ if i could go wrong it would , terry you did read the story relating to a noise and going in to reading garage , :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
