nice chat this morning terry, have i gone totaly ga ga but your dad worked in the warehouse prior to going on lebus ? i can remember him with a clipboard , anybody now if FJF SMITH is still alive ?, he was worse than you terry for having a camera
John Smiths still alive still lives at Caversham
Hi all, I did have a SMALL involvement regarding Wally Bradford at RAF Welford, Paul, under Denny’s supervision we tied a rope round his cab and he had a predicament in the early hours requiring a pee. The window came to his rescue! Still don’t remember the telephone box, hope I didn’t miss anything good. Martin still goes over the water, don’t know who for, and Matt is driving car transporters for Ford, living in Southampton. Can’t believe FJF is still about. Didn’t that bird put a dent in your roof Paul? Never did see his so-called calendars. I work with a guy from L&H Terry, and have it on good authority they folded in 2003. Clever idea about TK Max, she hates lorries now, don’t like me on the road, ain’t that sweet??
Morning all Thank you terry for the story behind the demise of jwq. Still it seems a bloody shame as thay were a pretty good bunch to work for and i will never forget Burt Carvy for giving a young bloke with no articulated expereance a go.Must have gotten a taste for it as i am still driving them 30 years later. Daf3300, there was a load of trucks pulling out of sheerness that weekend but i can,t remember the reason for the big panic to get coil to swindon.I used to run up to donny quite a bit when i first started but i wasnt in on that one you are talking about. Do you recall a young bloke who was based in donny, Tony i think his name was. Loveley bloke, pretty sure he ended up with the v8 fiat after burt took it off of jonny moss after there big bust up.I took that truck up to book club at groundwell ind estate to load one day (i think it was groundwell) but i do remember missing all the gears on the way out and missing them all again on the way back. I do remember alan from Nottingham, i spent the day with him when i could not get a load of spuds off till midnight at the market, looked after me real well. The bomb run from raf welford, went up there with Wally Brad and some one else, took about 3 hours for all of us to get loaded then the yanks told us we were going to thetford in east anglia and we were not allowed to stop till we got there. Well Wally hit the roof, :what do you think we are ******* supermen says wally" He made them open the canteen so we could all get some grub, good on him O happy days !!!
hello chaps, thanks for that info steve regarding FJF, and answering your question SHAW yes she did dent the roof bloody roof hatch leaked they had to fit a new one at chepping motors,NIPPER these reason for that weekend stint was steel strike was looming and HARRY wanted as much steel has he could get,and SHAW i seem to remember you asking MR BRADFORD for your rope back ,thanks NIPPER i have been going loopy trying to remember the lads name at donny, yes he got the V8 after there little spat , had a few nights out with him at spennymoor and tow law great bloke ,SHAW do you know if CHARLIE NORTON is still in cypress, SHAW that night i referred to earlier was my last euro trip on JWQ, i had a falling out with someone in the office and left before you got back, and to test those grey cells SHAW do you still play trivial pursuit i do
blimey terry good job i was sitting down when that came into view!!

HELLO EVERYONE-READY FOR MORE NOSTALGIA■■?- These pics are of Jwq in the latter days of it’s existence in the yard opposite Adwest in Woodley (incidentaly on the thread “BERKSHIRE COMPANIES” I’ve posted a few pics there of Jwq as well as some of Sayers transport and C&B haulage.
PIC 1) L TO R - Colin Dearing (his lorry) self, Darren Norgate and Andy better known as “Spud” I’d just like to say a few words about Darren and “Spud” a.k.a. “The Komatsu Kids” - these two guys were only teenagers at the time of this pic being taken, but two better forklift drivers I’ve yet to meet, a smashing pair of blokes they really were.Darren now works on Reading busses as a Driver.
PIC 2) A Couple of Jwq Beasties
PIC 3) More of 'em!
PIC 4 ) Paul Wilding and his MAN-the only ever MAN artic Jwq had
Great set of photos Terry, seem to remember my last Daf at Reading was B263 HDP before I left for Swindon. Did all the Italian in that six-legger. Wally still remembers that incident Paul, still blames me. Bit of a disaster area was Wally. Threw a red hot teabag out of his window and hit an old gal on her bike right in the kisser, hell of a commotion. Dragged a mercedes into Kodak’s gate in Antwerp too, plus a few other stories I could relate. Don’t play trivial pursuit any more, how do you get the time to do that ? Curly is still about. Lives about 300 yards from me. Does occasional van work, must be approaching 80. Anyone got a photo of TAN 947S? Would love to see one.

Hello,My pal Adrian Cypher took this A.E.C donkeys years ago in Marlborough high street.
Cheers Bubbs.
Yes Paul, I clobbered the workmans lunch box on the outskirts of Zeebrugge, pitched it straight down the hole he was digging-well the trailer was crabbing to the right. John Fulker was right behind me, cracked up. Good to see the pic of you and the beard, is that a tiger in the pic above your head?
THANKYOU SO MUCH BUBBS for posting that excellent quality pic of the AEC. This was the time when my dad was working for JWQ, but my endearing memories are of the fleet of “bullnose” or bonneted mercs-do you have any pics of these lorries at all?? regards terry.
