With a load of meshing, a regular Hoyle s load
Hi guys
Great thread about hoyles ,
I can remember seeing Hoyles lorry’ s,i used to notice the depot names on the sides, most of them were either manchester,or wakefield ,however occasionally used to see the odd one from scunthorpe or ambergate and rarely from london or wrexham ,the last one i can recall in the maroon /grey livery was an E reg p113 scania origionally from ambergate ,this one was however resprayed into the white /grey colour after maxi had taken over Hoyles…
Incidentally KHD 370N finished its life as the Shunter at there Whittlesey depot …
It was then replaced by a B series Erf origionally from there (London Depot )
Only the one,but you may find some on the Old time Lorries Companys and Drivers thread.Look through Sherrans & other Manchester Firms plus Companys from North Manchester in the 70s,there is some stuff on these two threads about them.
Where was the their depot in wakefield. I remember going by it as a kid in my grandads lorry, and i do quite a bit around wakey now and always wondered where it was. Also remember going by Sanmars place too years ago but can’t quite picture where that used to be…

Hello. Wonder which depot that this used to operate from I photographed it in F.C.Concrete’s yard on Alfreton Rd.Derby on
3/9/91.It was obviously the shunter but if it was still Hoyle’s, F.C.s or another haulier, dont no.Nearest J.Hoyle depot at that time
I think would have been Ambergate but Im sure someone will know.Just wonder if it survived ? Mike.

That would have been based at the old Toft Brothers and Tomlinson depot (NORDE suspensions) at Darley Dale between Matlock and Bakewell in its road going days. Their yard is now used by Matlock Transport.
Just got me thinking about where in Wakefield these were and I think that they were just off denbydale rd ,now it’s were Calder island and the jag and ford garages are…I think?
