JLR making the Jaguar brand all electric

Jaguar can keep it (whatever the production model turns out to be)
Jaguar, (since new management took over) has lost it’s way, they used to be a luxury, desirable, motor car , they’re not any more. The ‘bread and butter’ models are just ordinary Euro boxes and the move to ALL electric :grimacing: the least said the better. That PROTOTYPE electric thing is an appalling heap of misery. I’ve run Jaguars for over 20 years, I won’t be buying any more
Just my opinion.

This is the spiel from them about this new 00 EV model.

"Jaguar is seeking to ditch its traditional customer-base perceived as middle-class, middle-aged, cigar-smoking, gin and tonic sipping golfers living in well-heeled enclaves of detached houses with gravel driveways, and epitomised by Inspector Morse and his classic red Mk II Jaguar.

Instead it is actively pursuing a younger, wealthier and more liberally progressive and diverse clientele prepared to spend double the current average £50,000 showroom price for a new Jaguar."

Well this working class, non smoking, teetotaler enjoys driving his Jag

Oh and I don’t play golf and I live in a council house!

To be fair that happened with the move from XJ12 to X type and diesel S type and then XF.All down market fleet rubbish.
In this case although I don’t buy the EV narrative I do actually prefer the I Pace to XE .
Both are cramped back breaking junk over long distances but like the big V8 F Pace SVR the I Pace is brutal and a total riot to drive in terms of its power delivery. That’s an advantage of its mechanical EV transmission v torque converter and a 400 hp EV is far far from being the no hoper 4 cylinder 2.0 litre X type.
I’m open minded on the Jaguar EV programme.
Assuming they can do something like an 800 hp F Pace, which you can actually sit high enough off the floor to be comfortable, enough space for a long touring trip and luggage, and with windows to be able to see out of.
That will fit the definition of grace, space and pace.
The charging issue is what it is.

I’ve just told Mrs GOM your opinion of our 21 year old S type, she replied and I was truly shocked at the depth of her profanity (course language). The poor old soul is 84 years old, feisty as ever.
I really do hope she never meets you in person, I fear she’ll go straight for your throat.
She enjoys driving our Jaguar, she loves to light the turbos up. We bought it new in 2004.
A little story:- 4/5 years ago we were perambulating (Google it :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: ) along the de-restricted German Autobahn, I chickened out at about 130 mph, up she chirps…“Can I have a go now” “NO YOU CAN NOT”
To complete the picture I should add that Mrs GOM is 5ft tall and weighs 7 stone wet through, she has the seat as high as it will go so that she can see OVER the steering wheel

Ironically I didn’t actually include the S type in my swipe at the post Lyons era products. At least the petrol offerings.
I do know that whereas the X type was just a glorified Mondeo the S type was based on a relatively better rwd American Lincoln design, which was predictably happy to take the supercharged V8 albeit sadly auto only and a zb to convert to manual.
It’s a bit hypocritical for anyone who thinks that a diesel has any place in Jaguar to have a go at Jaguar for turning on their core market in that regard.
When dieselisation was part of the rot.
Maybe my nemesis would have a more open mind if she heard the Merlin soundtrack change to the vicious snarl with all 12 throttles opened up and as the tail goes down and the front lifts with the acceleration in fifth from 130 mph on the way 165 mph.At which point it’ll get through both 10 gallon tanks in the around 35 minutes and 85 miles between Basel and Kehl on the A5.
Unfortunately there’s no way that I’d ever get the chance to drive that new generation 800 hp F Pace EV SVR on any autobahn.Maybe the A43 and M40 on the way to it’s lucky owner, with limiter absolutely switched in.

Unless I misunderstand you DID have a swipe at Mrs GOM’s diesel S Type. Quote ‘All down market fleet rubbish’. She’s most definitely not happy about that.
Pray to your god that she never meets you.

I’m very happy with my XF, I’ve had it 9 months so far and still enjoy driving it. :+1:

I was ‘actually’ referring to the hypocrisy of diesel Jaguar owners having a go at Jaguar for rightly daring to put a 1,000 hp electric Jaguar into production instead.
Ironically I almost agree with Lancping on that but we can bet that he will see it as borguois legacy decadence we must all have a BYD with the Communist flag flying high from it’s roof.
As I said I’d be happy with just the poverty spec 800 hp F Pace EV but unfortunately I still wouldn’t be able to afford the PCP payments.
A Tuareg R 465 petrol hybrid hopefully just maybe.
Legacy motor indeed.

Mine’s a diesel, I don’t think about EVs as I know I’ll never be able to afford one. :+1:

To be fair the Ingenium 6 cylinder diesel is the exception which proves the rule.I actually like driving it as much as the petrol.Especially in the LR Defender which I prefer to the Range Rover for its driving position.
It’s all about horses for courses and Jaguar is on the right track with the idea of nothing to lose and everything to gain by massive big power the more the better in the case of EVs, combined with regenerative braking, which is another thing I like about the I Pace.

Why was/is it hypocrisy ? And why would/does anybody need/want a 1000hp motor car?
I’ll bet a shilling that Jaguar will be lucky if they sell 100 of their 1000 hp ‘supercars’

Anyway, that’s me done with this, I’ve better things to do, I’ll leave you with this…I’ve been a ‘Jaguar man’ for the best part of 25 years, seeing the present direction of the company they’ve lost me as a future customer. The ‘new suits’ will wreck the company. IMO.

We’re arguing about the soul of Jaguar you say you’re a Jaguar man.But you don’t see the marquee as essentially a low volume producer of more powerful cars than its competitors.
That would obviously have meant no XK powered products in the late 1940’s to mid 1960’'s and no XJ13 derived V12.
The truth is Le Mans winning pace was exactly the formula and foundation that the firm was built on.
The same engines and similar performance in its big family saloons as its XK120-E Type sports cars.
Hopefully it might also offer a 1,000 hp option on that EV F Pace.Could call it SSVR.Jaguar man indeed.
