As I understand it the excess power is at zero (or low) cost.
A 500bhp ICE is heavier, more expensive, and less fuel efficient than a 150bhp ICE.
Not so with electric, where there is much less difference in weight, energy efficiency, and cost between different power ratings. In fact it seems that a high power motor is better for harvesting power during re-gen braking, so can be overall (sometimes at least) more energy efficient than a smaller motor.
Jaguar obviously can’t win. Some want a Mondeo with a Jaguar badge. Some want an F Pace SVR.While they are all moaning because the badge no longer depicts the aggressive cat with attitude and grace, space and pace.
As for me an 800 hp EV F Pace SVR replacement fits the bill with or without the Jaguar leaper and face on the grill.
No one said it has to be driven everywhere like you stole it but the regenerative braking obviously helps on entry and exit of all those roundabouts.
I’m already starting to get this brave new world.
It’s a Jaguar it’s supposed to be more powerful and much faster than its competitors. Its not supposed to be a Mondeo. It will only give 800 hp at full throttle it doesn’t need to be driven everywhere like you stole it.I thought that was the issue.Oh wait.

“Jaguar’s new electric GT is based on its new JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture). It has a target EPA range of 430 miles (692 km) and a WLTP range of up to 478 miles (770 km). It can also add 200 miles (321 km) of charge in as little as 15 minutes.”
The extra 200ml in 15 minutes sounds good to me. After doing maybe over 300ml on a full charge, I reckon a coffee and pee stop would be welcome.
Looks like a car that will appeal to only a small market, but will be a high profile (job done) flagship vehicle.
Give it four doors, the ability to cross speed bumps and potholes without wrecking expensive wheels and tyres, and the same platform could find more customers.
Or maybe that should be more potential customers if the price dropped drastically!
No one buys a Jaguar GT based on its range between fuel stops.20 gallons in a V12 XJ will get it less than 300 miles allowing for a 5 gallon margin.A modern F Pace SVR call it 350 miles.
The new Jaguar EV has been spotted out in the wild in camo near JLR’s engineering centre, Good grief! There must be, 1000ltrs of wasted space between the grill & windscreen, Big ol wide slab of a thing & the CEO now say’s it will cost £150000.
