Hi Peter, sorry i do not remember john or mick, might no them by face  any one remember a pub called great northern near a one dept in Bradford, never went in as i am a Leeds lad but think a lot of Bradford driver used it,keith…ps this is a good forum to look at

I think the Great Northern got pulled down when the new Aire Valley road was constructed it was at the bottom of Wakefield Road ,last i heard Mick Hannan was working for HLH

The Great Northern did get pulled down during the eighties I think. The landlord I remember was called Alec, he took over the Jacobs Well after the demolition of the Northern. My dad (also a driver) used to play in the Great Northern every weekend, he was playing Country and Western as a solo artist back then. The great northern was opposite Wilson Transport. Loved there trucks, mainly DAF’s I remember. This was early eighties, he also played at the Holme Lane too during the early seventies.

It was rumoured at the time that you could get anything from the Great Northern. Just say the word and within an hour it was in the boot of your car. wink wink.

Mentioning Wilsons brought back memories of Crows (as the crow flies) who used to park there, and their fleet of Thames Traders that always looked smart.

No peter it came with some other stuff that a mate of mine got for the book, theres another one ill post sometime.

I think the Great Northern was pulled down long before the Aire Valley Rd was planned.
IIRC it was at the junction of Wakefield Rd and Adolphus street, by the Adolphus goods yard , probably went in the late '60’s.
■■■■ Corner used to work, before A1 , for R Dennison/F Obank on Tong St. and I am fairly sure that Mick hannan started out at National carriers on Valley Rd.
Didn’t Ashies drivers use the Lord Clyde as their bradford office?

any more news ■■■■ corner wot he doing now, thanks keith
