Jack Richards Fakenham

Anyone on here a member of the yellow brigade?

Just wondering if their any good as a whole against say, cough cough Stobarts?

You know for wages and the like as a mates recommended them to me, says they take new starts on but I’m a bit unsure as I’d seen via the web that drivers were speculating([emoji38]) that as the initial Turners “not changing things” time is nearly up, it may all be shut up and turned to pure Turners? [emoji52]

Be really appreciated as always if Anyone’s about on here who’d be kind enough too toss a scrap towards this new porpoise as I’m debating an entire family up stix to the region they frequent…

As always massive cheers in advance [emoji41][emoji41]

Sorry gov I should have been clearer instead of relying on the ‘tupe’ bit lol…

I shall edit it forthwith [emoji6]

I see one of JR yesterday in the livery, so colminated with that and the Turners buy out, and the speculation is why I posted lol…
but I made a hash of it doing so ffs [emoji849][emoji38]

I think by your post you’re a genuine keen newbie mate. Try one or two of the local container guys round you area I’m sure one of them will give someone who shows a bit of noise and a keen edge who speaks English mate

I’ve heard if you join them you are following one of the best.

Hahaha bless ya, I’m deffo a nuisance [emoji38][emoji38]

Totally, I’ve really toyed with the Maritime idea but I just don’t think as a new lad I’d cut the mustard at the depth their looking for straight of the bat as complete fresh meat [emoji20]

Plus the cost of living round here is extortionate, and the lifestyle is miserable for my kids hence I’m looking to the wilderness and firms like JR, MRCT, those types just till I can Praps prove to an owner op or larger firm I’m up to the responsibility and build up to the paths I’d like to achieve, heavy haulage/cranes something I can work hard in and enjoy…

Muchos your input though Mr old timer [emoji41][emoji41]

Well I doubt you’d get much less in terms of cost of living moving to Norfolk or North Suffolk and in places like North Norfolk, house prices will be high due to second home and retirees buying properties especially in the villages and near the sea, but wages for truck drivers are likely to be lower than your area and the only large haulier is Jack Richards.
Try Felixstowe, Ipswich, Gt Blakenham, and up the A140 to Eye, depending where in Essex you are that might commutable while you find somewhere to live in Suffolk, South Norfolk area.
Also don’t just stick with the big names, plenty of small haulage companies who might give a new driver a start if you make the right impression with the boss, that starts by turning up and asking.

Cheers bud, yeah I’ve no fear door knocking and will be doing so shortly, just trying to find/compile a list of the not so advertised smaller firms as I type… [emoji106]

All I can say ref the living aspect, equivalent house in Norfolk to me in Essex…
Near 50k cheaper from rough mooching.
But it’s the quality of life I’m more after, plus there’s still the odd patches of land to buy, round here I couldn’t buy a spot to stand a pot on for below 300k [emoji52]

Cheers though bud fully hearing/appreciating your input, all goes into me pot [emoji106]

Well I live near Cromer and can tell you it’s a great quality of life up here (heaving during the summer months) but as said house prices are fairly high and wages aren’t so great.
Couple of guys at ours come from JR, reckon it’s the usual max hours for min wages but decent kit and work mainly. There’s other few general haulage firms up here who have taken newbies on though, plenty of tipper work too especially this time of year on sugarbeet.

Cheers bud, yip as said I’ve family up there so I know how lovely the lifestyle is, it’s me dream [emoji108]

As said in other threads, I’m in it to tramp so I’d rather live somewhere nicer and commute in.
OK maybe less family time but I’d just be happier knowing they are secure/brighter when their left behind…

Im on a mooch hard [emoji106]

Bless ya cheers mate, already on my radar [emoji108]

I’ve got F Sherwoods up there too, but they seem a bit hit/miss as to whether they do or don’t, cba with the faff esp as it’s dirty work, which I’d love as I care not if it’s ■■■■/shiny long as the wage is there and the grafts honest.

Come January latest, doors are getting put through and someone’s gonna love this dog on their window [emoji38]

It’s a low pay area no avoiding that, but if you’re a new license you could try Roger Warnes they take new drivers.

North Norfolk is still Norfolk, South Norfolk on the other hand is starting to get like Kent/Essex.

Deffo north’s the plan, round Coltishall and up ideally, but Im not really up for heading further east much past say Fakenham living wise, commute wise no bother.

Such a shame east is being ruined, too much poxy london waste being tipped out here now [emoji20]

Posted this a while ago, mostly round the North Walsham, Aylsham area, basically where I lived before moving to South of Norwich.
Most will be pleased to find somebody willing to tramp, don’t know how much they’ll be willing to take on new drivers, but if you don’t ask.

Can’t say which is good and bad for you, but I’ll list a load of firms that people I know work for none of them have an awful reputation, but none are locally known as so good you queue up to get jobs there.

J Medler, at Taverham. Locally known as red Medler, do mostly bricks, but some other flatbed stuff like timber, round wood, steel. They are advertising at the moment.

MA and HV Medler at Marsham, locally known as Green Medler, mostly curtainsider work, they are related to J Medler, but then almost every business is that area is owned by a Medler.

Then there is Saxon, mostly tankers and flatbed work, Drurys and Starlings mostly curtainsider, all round North Walsham and then loads of places with no more than 5 or 6 trucks doing a mixture of agricultural and traction work and almost everybody, no matter how big or small seems to have a couple or trucks on sugar beet over the winter.

From what I’ve been told average pay is around £10ph with slight variations of night out, meal allowances and bonuses across companies.

I wouldn’t bother with sending CV’s just try knocking on doors and take a phrase book some of the bosses are proper Norfolk speakers.

Wouldn’t dissagree with most of that, where I live people are commuting into Cambridge since the A11 was dual at Elvedon.
Still a few isolated out posts of pure Norfolk strangeness though.
