Great photos Keith, Is this the only new Merc a present ?, Regards Larry.
Hi Larry, this is the only one this month but there are rumoured to be another 4 over the next few months.
Sorry I meant Lawrence.
Nice to see a truck painted and signed up nice instead of factory white, very smart livery
Yes it nice to see them nicely liveried, everywhere I go people comment on the sign writing. I realise it costs but it is a good advert for the company and as everyone has commented it’s an old family haulage company with some pride in the fleet.
Are the white bits still to do red it will be bang on if they are, still nice whatever

I’m not sure how PoT first kicked off but when Nissan Washington began production they only had one or two motors and there was always one coupled to a 20ft Container Trailer backed onto the Goods In dock in Nissan. I believe then they were running the containers in from Tyne Dock, they didn’t seem to do anything other than containers then. I drove for Fergusons at the time from the Sunderland depot and we ran equipment in every day until the factory was up and running and manufacturing. One of our Fitters left to work for PoT as a driver and they had only two or three motors by then but according to him they were going to get bigger. However how they were set up or what other work they had I haven’t a clue, from the start though they had clean and tidy vehicles. I would imagine someone on here from the Northeast will know more about the beginnings of this company. Cheers Franky.
Evenin franky , re port of tyne , mmmm did it not come about when we ( FERGYS) ran containers from tyne dock to nissan ■■? Through a company called t.l.c …tyne logistics, ran by a couple of guys in the early days from j kerrs , ian gibson and micky freeman lass in the office by the name of lisa , and also a lassie by the name of marjorie . we ran the nissan containers myself and keith stubbs , nigel from blyth depot done the nightshift shunting, also les ingleby also ex fergys (used to do autrans with george armstrong ) went there to do the container loading , eventually bought a couple of poxy lil fl10 units then started doing other container stuff , eg pirellie, so on . Also ended with a 6 legger actros which les drove on shifts , geordie warwick went there aswell, slowly doin ship unloading then things just went woosh , wah old pal bob liley done a stint for them when they became pot, divnt know if ya remember but ya old 6 legger merc ended up on the nissan containers because our poxy lil fl7 simply couldnt hack it , ps am gannin back as about 1992 here lads , al the best , john armstrong .

Tyne Logistics Company (TLC) was wholly owned by Mitsui OSK Lines. and sold by degrees to the Port. As a consequence, MOL’s European MD, Chris Bourne, was a Director of Port of Tyne for several years
