It’s all kicking off

In the Middle East. Guess we’ll shortly find out if they are genuinely seeking a better life or merely awaiting orders.

More like the question which/who’s side is this country actually on ?.Bearing in mind the names Meir Naker, Avshalom Haviv and Yacov Weiss.
Also British troops sent to kill their former Jewish Brigade comrades.

Say what??….

It’s almost like I made a statement saying that I love barbecue sauce and you counter with “yes, but what planet did Breznevs monkey orbit as it was offering scintillating views of my new flock wallpaper? And just who’s volcano do we suspect that paint came from?”

I’ve told him several times, he needs to get his Babel Fish fixed, it’s getting worse day by day, by the end of this week his posts are going to be nothing but “jnasb ffgi, wdnrwoinwopq, a,dnifklnsns, blork”

I’m quite ignorant on ME politics (as well as many other things :joy:) mainly through lack of interest.
But I thought all this was between the Israeli govt and a Palestine terrorist outfit, who kicked all this latest stuff off with an atrocity against civilians, and the Israelis retaliated.
Where tf does Iran come into it?

Iran arm and finance, Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis in order to wipe Israel from the face of the earth.

Or they support those trying to stop the illegal Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank?

Or is that the ongoing Israeli Police actions needed to secure their home territory?

Or is that the illegal Gov support for homesteaders in stolen foreign lands?

It is complicated, it has been complicated for decades, and just keeps getting more so.
If Northern Ireland was a game of draughts, then the ME is a game of 3D chess.

Because Hezbollah, in particular, are Iran’s proxies/assets, to a lesser extent so are Hammas. It’s basically the little guys being mates with the big lad who wades in when they get their dinner money robbed.

That’s my TN version of R4’s analysis :joy:

You may have missed Netanyahu’s “speech” earlier this week, via Twitter/X, in which he addressed “the noble Persian people” who are fairly well repressed (certainly the women are) by the hardline Sharia-law loving theocratic government, and hinting he would help them with regime change.

Everything I said is historic fact not fantasy. The Jewish Brigade went home to help form Israel and the IDF.
Then found themselves at war with pro Arab/Islamic UK, for the crime of creating the Jewish state for Holocaust survivors.

You made a statement regarding the motivation of the invaders.I answered it with history suggests they are here as allies in an anti Semitic agenda going back to before WW2 let alone after.Obviously Harold Wilson thought Israel was going to be wiped out in 1967 despite the few Centurion tanks sent to them

Yeah you’re right I missed it…I was washing my hair that day when it was on.:joy:

I’ve kinda picked up that the lefty Liberal lentil eating, sandal wearing, crew have strong support for Palestine.
That aspect alone is enough for me to look more favourably on Israel… if I had to ‘pick a side’ (I don’t) that is purely from a simplistic pov.
That and the long historic persecution of the Jews, and the obvious Holocaust.

Other than that I’ll continue in my ignorant bliss of it all as before.

Supporting those trying to stop the illegal Israeli occupation in Gaza & the West Bank is one thing but financing & arming the military wings of Hezbollah and Hamas, both designated as terrorist organisations and ultimately wanting to wipe Israel off the face of the earth is completley unjustifiable.

I’d go as far as saying that Franglais would definitely have been manning a Russian supplied tank for Syria in 1967 and I would happily have been manning an IDF Centurion hopefully with him in the sights.

The occupation of Gaza like Golan is for the same but even more reason as Russia was/is paranoid about its buffers after WW2.
The fact is Israel is surrounded by hostile anti semiti states that refuse to recognise the right of the Jewish state to exist and want to wipe it and it’s inhabitants off the map.
Usually supported by equally anti semitic Socialism.

Exactly, and I object to the various Palestinian groups being labelled as terrorist, if anybody is a terrorist it is the war criminal Netanyahou, who has to date, in the last year alone, slaughtered at least 40,000 men, women and children in Gaza. Never mind the turning out of Palestinians from their homes and farms in the West Bank so that illegal settlers could move in with their guns and the backing of the IDF.

Worth remembering that the Nazis used to call the heroic French Resistance, terrorists.

Factually untrue.
Israel has land borders with 4 countries. Lebanon and Syria do not recognise Israel, but Egypt and Jordan do.
Iran does not border Israel, and used to recognise the country but currently does not.

The State of Palestine is split into the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. That is occupied by Israel and has been since the 1967 war. The occupation is termed illegal by the UN.

Israel itself which is on land occupied by the British after WW1. After WW2 the GB let the UN give the land to the Jewish peoples to form a homeland.
Gaza became the new home for many Arabs expelled or who fled there ancient homes in the new Israel after the 1948 Arab/Israel war.
Those Arabs who remained in Israel were not given any votes nor citizenship until the 1970’s(?)

@Spardo.
I agree with some of that, but not all of what you say. Although the Palestinians do have a very valid set of arguments against Israel I am not sure that their actions are justified. The events of a year ago were not a good way to make their point.
Attacking civilians is very different to attacking an army of occupation. That is terrorism not resistance fighting.

I think you are absolutely correct in criticising Netanyahu. Pre the Oct '23 atrocities he was an unpopular leader. He is a hard right leader and arguably his intransigence helped strengthen the Arab hardliners.

As in so many other conflicts there will be no military solution to this one. Brute force normally creates more martyrs and more opposition.

The atrocity of Hamas does not justify the possible war crimes of Israel.

Having said all of that…the Palestinian territories have been illegally occupied for decades, the peoples held down economically, and the current Gov are supporting more Israeli settlers to take over land. “Settlers” wander around with automatic weapons and Arabs are treated as second class citizens in their own country.
It is no wonder that something cracked.

I really cannot see anyone here who is “in the right”. Only people in the wrong.
It will not be solved by violence, ever.
It may be solved by more dialogue over a long time period.

ED to add
Hamas does not equal Arab
Netanyahu does not equal Israeli
