Salaried workers I think should always be based on a maximum of 40 hours. Any work done over that should be paid as overtime. I’m basing 40 hours on what office workers do.

Firstly, in your example you say 3x15 and 3x13. If you are doing 6 days for that dough you are a mug. If not, get your casio back out of the drawer. Secondly, everyone wants what’s good for them. If you’re on salary, you want your feet up after 8 hours, boss wants blood sweat and tears for another 7. When it’s hours, boss wants a blue arsed fly for 8 hrs, you want to do as little as possible for as long as possible. The answer is find a job like mine. Salaried for 12 hrs a day on 500 per week. If we do a 15 it’s an extra 25 quid. I know where I stand, my bills get paid, but I don’t work too hard
I’m hoping your figures are ‘take home’
I’m guessing they are not, and it just saddens me more hearing about the pay in our industry.
All depends where you work, salary doesn’t mean a con if you have proper T’s and C’s well negotiated…yet again i’ll wager those with packages not negotiated via their union membership are the ones being turned over.
We’re salaried, i do approx 44 hour weeks on average on my shift pattern, might be a 7 hour day might be 13 depending on the job.
Well paid and well treated so those of us with nous (or memories longer than 5 minutes) do the job right and bend over backwards to help out when its needed, keep the customer happy and we all stay in work.
Our salary is based on an average of 48 hrs per week as required by the RTWTD.
We work up to the legal max of 60 some weeks but with short days here and there and days off in lieu they average it out. It makes our hourly rate just over £12 plus tax free night out allowance (four nights out most weeks unless we’re taking lieu days makes us lucky to have a decent number in this day and age.
It is no secret that I’m on a day rate it’s £100 a day + £10 bonus + £5 meal allowance. A little more if you work weekends, I’m happy knowing what I’m earning each week and not having to chase the hours to earn a crust. This week has been a good week so far, Monday was 10.5 hrs with a 2 hour wait at the yard, a 2 hour sleep plus a 45min break, today was an 11 hour day with a hour break. Some weeks are bad though worst is 81 hours duty time.
To compare this to a company in a similar type of haulage in the same area, my uncle works for Freshlinc £6.90ph for the first 8 hours, then it’s £9 an hour after that, he says he struggles to get over 10 hours a day.

The 500 (just used as a ball park, it’s actually 516) is take home, which includes nights out whether I do them or not, the 25 is before tax, so roughly 20 quid extra

I work for colton commercials. We do 90% of tate and lyle sugars work, all of bestways ndc work (that’s why we jump the queue) and ferry tilts for mccann, 2xl, ndq and dalessi, plus any backloads we can get our hands on. Usually bricks, cement or plasterboard for wincanton, pcc work for great bear/dhl/ceva/stobarts etc plus quite a bit for Gregorys. It’s not a bad job
You should be paid for the hours you work-end off.

My tupence worth, I’m on salary at the moment, and yes they expect to max hours, and I’m normaly near my 90 a fortnight every fortnight. Weekend work is on top of the salary and thats paid hourly. The way to work it is to get a Saturday job now and again, and then get a tidy friday the following week because you’ve maxed your fortnightly driving, but because Friday is a salaried day its full pay for maybe 5-6hrs work.
Once I arrived at a customers premises a day early, it was the shippers ■■■■ up. I was told to sit tight and tip at 8am the following morning, 4hrs work for that day, thats when salary really pays
Couple of weeks ago my planner asked if I’d start at 1am the following morning, so I parked up before 4pm giving 8hrs for that day, but again full days salary, and because that was my last 9 off the week I only had a max 13hr day to do the following day. So it dont allways follow that they want max duty, just flexibilty.
On hours companies would expect you to do as above, but get no overtime for the 8 hr day, and no bonus for starting early.
Never been anywhere that paid hourly and made tidy money.

No chance, we get paid for a 48 hour week but we do a lot less no poa at work we are given days off as poa, paid and get to finish 3 ish some days.
Edited for bad grammar
Salary pay would work if POA hadn’t been invented.

You need to know how to play the game. I’m not saying dessy did anything wrong but if you’ve got a load on your back for somewhere late in the day, just tell him you won’t deliver it unless you get your ot codes for any owed. Does the trick. By the same token, he doesn’t pay them gratuitously, which is fair crack, ie running late just to get the ot. If you want to park in your favourite spot or with your best mate, it’s off your own back. If he tells you to park somewhere he will pay for the time it takes to get there

Many many times ran where he wanted me to be and always had an argument about the overtime rate Jay! Which is why I switched to nights only and looked elsewhere eventually!

they advertising now salary £465 take home and extra £25 if you do a 15 hr what if you do a 14.5 hr day ? and is the night out included in that or is it extra ?
I dont want to go off thread but if coltons are paying this extra £25 for a 15 hr day then fair play to them but with the sounds of things you have to jump through hoops to get your money which to me just hads another stress to the job , and also all those of you that think its ok if your sat in your truck waiting then its not really working ! really need a quick check up from the neck up …if the office staff had to do a 15 hr day and the boss said where not paying you for 5 of them hrs because you wasn’t actually talking on the phone you would think the world had gone mad.
We get a day rate for 11 hours after that its o/t by the hour. Very rare i do any if its under an hour i dont book it as i very rarely do more than 10 hours.
Some may think im stupid but ive had a lot of early days lately due to prrsonal stuff and havent been docked a penny.
