I cannot see to find the answer on the internet
It would only be temporarily for a few months in order to drive UK LGV C1s or Cs by a non UK resident (permanent resident of OZ)

No, it’s not valid. A non-EU resident with a non-EU licence can only drive cars and motorbikes in UK (for 12 months). The only lorry he can drive in UK is one that he actually drove into the country.

What Roymondo said.
This link may help Exchange a foreign driving licence
If you’ve got a bus or lorry licence you can only drive buses or lorries that are registered outside Great Britain if you’ve actually driven the vehicle into Great Britain yourself.
Thanks folks
Very good question, I obtained a motorcycle licence here in Australia, can I exchange that for a uk M/C lincence on my return??

Thanks for that, I was concerned. I hold a car,bus and truck licence. I passed my motorcycle test here in Australia. I wasn’t sure if that was the case.
Thanks
The irony…
Of it all. You can drive a three trailer road-train across some of the harshest roads on the planet but you’re not qualified to drive an artic up the M1.
You can pass a test on a tractor in a muddy field in Romania/Latvia/Godknowswherever and swap that for a class 1 and then drive an artic up the M1.
But what about the other way round?

.
Because its nowhere near similar. You’ll notice the lack of traffic densities on the roads the roadtrains mostly travel on in Oz in comparison to a typical day on the M1.

I know that the UK C+E is valid in New Zealand because I have looked into it. (Just needs swapping over).
Seems reasonable to assume it’s the same in Australia.
Things might have changed, but when we came to Oz in '74 I went to the local nick and a copper (from Battersea I might add) swapped my car licence but not the class 1. I had to hire an artic from Ace Driving School and take a test I’ve often wondered if that copper had a mate at Ace.
There’s bound to be exceptions but, the rule of thumb is driving licences from Commonwealth countries can be swapped for UK licences but not the vocational classes.
I know someone who, several years ago, swapped his UK licence for a Canadian one. He took his commercial licence in Canada and worked there for a few years. When he returned he swapped his Canadian licence back for a British one but they didn’t give him his old UK HGV entitlement back, because they said he swapped licences and didn’t reapply for his old one. I don’t know if that’s still the same now, but he had to redo his tests (or rather do his test for the first time since he got grandfather rights on an old Irish licence first time around).

Really?, here in NSW. The roads are exactly the same as the UK. They have B double trailers ie a 20 and 45 on normal roads.
There are traffic jams in Australia. Sorry, but your facts are really mislaid.

I am assuming it is the same for other states, in nsw, if you hold a C+E you can change it for a HR. It’s the same as a class 2.
You have to take a 1 day test and a knowledge test to get your C+E (HC) no medical required. No tacho no DCPC.
If you wish to drive A B bouble or Road train, you need a MC, which will require a medical.

When we came out here in 1998 I had to hire an artic from Ace Driving School for two hours, they were near Kangaroo Point in Brisbane at the time and they were really helpful. I had to have their instructor with me whose first name was Preston, it seemed that his grandad was from Lancashire many years before. We drove over to Cleveland to take the test and the examiner told me that his wife was from Leeds.
somebody mentioned Canada -UK…if you held a “hgv” licence before you left the uk and went to Canada (have to sit test for class1 etc)you get your old" HGV "one back if you come back to the UK (after medical etc).

I exchanged uk hgv for NZ truck and bus licences, just had to do theory tests, and write a nice letter to the NZ vosa / transport department and they will grant you a bus licence if you are anexperienced truck driver.
That was nearly 5 years ago though
