used to go in Round Spinney with SKF bearings, there were 4 trucks on the job, KW also did this job. i got my job with the Swedes as KW moved to Belgium. Bloody bays were tight, had to walksideways between the trailers to look in the back doors.

We don’t email because he is about as IT trained as my dog LOL
I usually just meet up with him in NYC when he loads out of my terminal, it can be 3 times a month or once in 6 months but I will ask him.
I used to work with a ‘Kevin Pinney’ at Swifts, is it the same guy ? He had his brothers working there too, Stuart and Tracey.
same guy yes (pip) was a nickname for 1 of the brothers, only knew kevin well enough to chat with, aware of his brothers though, think he something to do with MAM transport in northampton recently
Kevin Pinney used to be my Linehaul boss at DHL London Colney. He now works for the water board in Northampton.
I work with his nephew Paul (Pips Son ) who is our drivers rep at RMC Nothampton

you will Have to mention to Nicky that Mick Ihme,Mick Wilson,Tony Willoughby still work at Northampton !
I can recall reading an article in i think Truck magazine saying that IPEC would not display truck makers names on their lorries . Judging by a lot of these old photos this would seem to be right .A quote i remember was that if they wanted a badge to be displayed the maker could pay for advertising.

this was true and was enforced for quite a few years
I’m sitting in Domino’s at the Yonkers refinery and Nicky’s workmate (who’s name I can never remember) just drove by and stopped to shake my hand for the new year, He is also from Dublin and drives for Carry transit … What a plonker I am
the reason no makers badges were kept on the trucks was that the australians said they wanted people to say it was an ipec truck not a volvo/daf/scania etc etc

hi all,i used to run to the ipec depot @ round spinney for sayers transport out of heathrow, used to run with a subbie called jon morton, yellow daf 2800,also recognise a few of the drivers names, jim broome , jimmy topping (orange 2500 daf) jim had a 3300 if i recall, nice bunch of lads, wonder if anyone knows there whereabouts■■? cheers. was only a young driver then but made me feel welcomeJim Broome had 2 DAF 3300, Jimmy Topping had one running out of Thornbury (Bristol) depot and the other ran out of another depot but I can’t remember which. They were consecutive reg no’s. Jimmy Topping also had a DAF 2800, FYA 852T, if I remember but it was 30 years ago! Jimmy was best man at my wedding. Jim Broome lived in a bungalow at Cambridge, Gloucestershire. Ivor Wheeler also worked for him and did IPEC work as well as going to Italy in Jimmy’s old DAF 2500. Ivor was a big lad and I seem to remember the lorry going in for service and they asked for the step to be straightend. When it was not Jim Broome was on the phone and was told to sell the lorry. The step was not bent, the cab was and he would never be able to get a windscreen fitted if it went it was that far out of shape!
Remember those days well, i used to go to Ipec during the night when driving for TNT out of the Hornsey depot, me and my friend KC used to do a week about

this one was owned by the Gebroeder Remie which were 3 enormous dutch brothers the oldest was Wim, the truck was eventually sprayed brown and carried working for Dachser for several years and still used to do customs clearance at Northampton
When I worked for TNT, they bought IPEC & we had a night trunk up to Northampton added to our matrix. It was a 6 night week when you were on that one & saturday night was a bit of a drag.
I remember meeting Wim Remie in the ICD at Round Spinney, he was certainly a nice chap. I also remember the two Foden 6x4 units in Ipec colours, they were subbies working there & one of the sons was called Chris, they moved over to pulling trailers for TNT out of the hub at Atherstone for a while then I never saw the trucks or Chris again. He too was a nice lad & I hope he’s well.
There was a young chap at the ICD who did night shunting, blimey he could handle those wagon & drag outfits even with a left hand drive lorry on it. I can’t remember his name now, but he used to wake us up when our trailers were ready to go. I hope he’s a member of this forum.
BB
the young guy with the Foden was Chris Pattison and the other Foden was his dad’s Ronnie Pattison
