Got loads mate, first one would be to run a mile
I did it on & off for 5yrs but it took me a long time to find the right job with the right co’ to keep me in any one place for longer than 6wks. There’s still a chance I’d go back to it 'cos I loved it that much.
Are you going for heavies or lights?

Heavy recovery is where its at. It’s what every recovery co’ aspires to achieve. The journey to get there is long & very very expensive. Be carefull it’s not just another of the rogue operators who turn to recovery because they can’t make any money from legitimate garage services.
99% of recovery co’s are bent M8, they are as bent as a bent thing that can’t be bent no more & most are so bent that they don’t even realise that they are bent. They will chew you up & spit out the dregs.
It will be safer for you if they are on the local Police contract, “ASK”, if they aren’t then walk away & go back when they are. If they’re a failed general garage who is looking to make money from the dregs that the likes of the AA, RAC, Greenflag etc throw them then YOU are the one who will suffer.
I had an interview with R W Brownlie the other week mate but not heard anything back from them yet
The main bad point is it is 6 days on and 2 off and your on call 24hours a day for the 6 days your on shift and he was saying if there busy you will likely get called out constantly throughout the 24 hours
They do have the police contract so it does make them busy
For the sake that all is holy, PLEASE read up on recovery before you go in.
The basics:
Spec lift - The one that goes under the tyres and lifts the vehicle up to tow it that way
Tilt & Slide - The type of bed that tilts and slides off.
■■■■■■ blocks - positioned on the bed as points for you to put the winch round to drag at different angles.
I hope you don’t have kids or any other commitments or the company is based in the east end of Glasgow…
Cowboys! I start back in recovery on monday with a big one in Glasgow - Good luck!

I hope thats not a reference to one in Glasgow is it…
One bad thing about this industry is the amount of rumours that go around!

Ha, ha! I’ve got a feeling I know which one you’re talking about - been advertising for the last three months on Job Centreplus - keep changing the advert cause’ they obviously couldn’t find what they’re looking for…(a MUG, who will be expected to be on call 24/7!)
Cowboys the lot of them!
Yup your right about it. I got a bit of work from them earlier in the year. Started, was alright and got on great with the guys. Boss would tell you to get off the phone even if on your break!
He sacked me after 2 weeks ‘because i had been sacked from my old job’. I called my old job after leaving a trail of descruction in his yard as a thank you and they gave me my old job back that night!
When I went for my interview with the new company, the first thing he asked was did I get sacked. I happily said yes and he told me not to worry - everyone is!
Even the guys at 911 and others all hate him!
Well after all the good news you guys have given me, i start in the morning lol

Wohoo, brilliant news mate!
Thank you ppL
Good luck with the job. Congrats.
Looking forward to picture diary (obviously with reg’s blanked out)
Good luck with the new job.
You’re going to need it. You will either love it or hate it with an equal passion & you’ll soon be finding out which it is.
They’re coming up for the silly season, I’m sorry to point this out, but it’s probably the only reason you got the job. You are expendable & they’ll treat you like dog ■■■, luckily you won’t realise this unless you manage to get a few years of experience under your belt.
Treat it as a learning experience & try to take every day as it comes.
As soon as you know what sort of job it is give us a shout & I’ll chuck you a few pointers that will make the job sooo much easier, recovery is a very broad subject & every day you will learn something new.
On pure roadside recovery to destination, I used to make £40-£100 a week in tips, I never worked for tips & I swear blind that it all went to good causes, but whilst doing that, my colleagues generally earned SFA.
On the Police scheme, you will eventually come across something that breaks your heart, it’s rare to catch a glimpse of a dead body, but something, usually very minor, will get you eventually. For me it was a mobile phone ringing in the footwell of a recovered fatac. The 999’rs have people who they can talk to, you have no one !
Then you get the rare one that will totally & absolutely smash your fragile heart into little tiny pieces.
The job is unique & few people from a lorry driving background can help you.

P.S.
Don’t take any piccy’s on a Police scheme job, sure fire way to get the instant sack.
I enjoy recovery been doing it for about year and half just keep a open mind at every job its good fun.

do you do 24 hr call 6 days a week that works out at 120 constant waiting on a job and you cant do anything or go anywere in that time that isnt to do with work all for £230 a week yes that is right £230 a week not even the advertised wage Mark(logic)!! does your tm cook your log so it looks good? do you pay out your pocket for any marks on the truck or vehicle your recovering? i was openly told today that my blue book would be falsified so you know wat my licence is worth more to than to lose it because some ■■■■ wants to play russian roulete with it. The job hunt is back folks!! hopefully pick up summit with the agency on the run up to christmas a wee bit peed off but never mind.
That’s ■■■■■■■■ mate Did you get my pm?
