Is it illegal to have interior lights on in a car whilst driving?
yes because it inhibits the drivers vision
(im assuming your talking about the night)

cant see how or it would be the same on buses .the only regulation is showing a white light to the rear … if you still say yes please provide valid link as nothing in the HWC…
I’m pretty sure having the interior light on while driving is not an offence.

No.
perfectly legal unless you are showing a red light to the front which is visible from outside.
just dont flick it on and off when in a dodgy lay bye you might attract the attention
Not illegal per se but if you had an incident then no doubt it would be thrown in the mix as a contributing factor

Nope she was wrong if it was she would have given you all sorts of hoops to jump through sounds like WPC Hitler
Quite often see these real life shows that have in car cameras and the interior lights are on so you can see the person being filmed. This extends to shows such as traffic cops who have been filmed with the lights on. Im guessing if its ok for them…

So what about the red cab interior lighting which is fitted to most trucks now ?

Depending on your speed that could be a different offence altogether

or should i have said, “visible to oncoming traffic”
standard factory fitted red interior lights are NOT forward facing so will not be illegal…
why would truck manufacturers make and sell an illegal product… ■■?

My trucks got a factory fitted bed but its not legal to sleep in it while i.m driving, calm down my question on the red cab lights was a genuine enquiry
During the winter months I often drive with the interior light on. Admittedly it’s only for brief periods at a time but I find it helps to have a light on when I’m pouring the hot water from my flask into my waiting cup.
Once out of town and the street lighting driving a modern bus at night is not much fun at all, the reflections from the interior lighting are awful.
Know in the 70s in London we had a couple of drivers pulled for interior lights on. Think they quoted ‘driving without due care and attention’ .Their reasoning being that they were probably messing about with something in the cab. Not concentrating on what was happening outside. As for buses, the driver usually had a blind or solid panel fitted behind them.

Most modern buses now have a strip of red lights on the NS downstairs and you can turn on either side independently. At night you just turn the OS strip of lights off and have the red ones downstairs.
The panel behind the driver makes no difference as the problems come from the reflection on the windscreen (the old leyland Lynx had an angled split screen so you didn’t get this)
The other problem is when you need to check for traffic coming from your left and all you see is the reflection of passengers having a slightly less miserable day than you.
Just a question which is nothing to do with trucks at all. When flying and on landing approach at night, why do they dim the interior lights?, the pilots are up front tucked away in the cockpit so I can’t see it makes any difference to them.
