HI, CAN ANY BODY HELP WITH INFO REGARDING CONVERSIONS FROM RHD TO LHD EITHER IN THE UK OR EUROPE IN RESPECT OF DAF XF/ VOLVO FH/MERC ACTROS OR MAN TGA.
I’M LOOKING FOR LHD VEHICLES, BUT CANNOT FIND ANY IN THE UK AND THE PRICES IN EUROPE ARE TO EXPENSIVE ? MAYBE ! ! ONCE I CAN FIND OUT THE COST TO CONVERT.
JJSL, i’m a little confused as to what exactly you’re after, so i guess others must be too.
Firstly, could i politely suggest you knock your CAPS off, as capitals use on the internet is seen as SHOUTING.
You say you want a LHD truck & are looking in Europe, but want to know the cost of converting to LHD? Surely, a European truck would already be LHD?
Is it just me?
Without researching the cost of changing the driving side, my initial reaction would be that it would be uneconomic. Remember even the wiring loom would have to be changed or adapted aswell as numerous other parts required.
If you tell us more details about what you want, age, budget, 4 x 2?, 6 x 2? bhp, Emission levels, etc. maybe somebody might know of something.
go to http://www.trans-top.com
and look at used vehicle,there
is a long list of places where you
can enquire as regards used
vehicle, and therefore get a bargin
Hi, sorry about the “CAPS” anyway, I require information on converting RHD trucks to LHD i.e. does anyone know of any companies in the UK or Europe who offer this service. The reason being to purchase say a DAF XF430 4 X2 Space cab year 2003/2004 euro 3 = £22000/24000 The same vehicle in europe will cost over £32000 plus = approximately
To convert the Daf you can re-use the steering column/pedal box/gear linkage and possibly with an adapter plate re-use the steering box which only leaves a new dash shell to purchase, then extend all the wiring and air pipes ?
I have spoken to a truck dealer in Northampton, who is sending his trucks to his own workshops in Poland, but at the moment, due to being very busy, he cannot offer this service.
Therefore, my question, which I think was in my original post “Do you know anyone who doe’s this type of convertion” RHD to LHD ?
Finally, have a look at this web site www.mobile.de on the top righthand side
you can change the language to english etc and then let me know if you still think they are cheaper then the UK ?
Commercial vehicle auctions are full of eastern european buyers to take trucks back to eastern europe. If they were cheaper over there why are they over here?
JJSL is right, exporting and converting a truck is economicaly viable in Eastern Europe and it is happening on a large scale. It is a fact that labour costs a fraction of what it costs here. Even cars expecially mercs, and beemers are not spared the conversion.
My mate from work recently exported an iveco to Ukraine.I beleive the conversion would be done in neghbouring Poland and he has since been inundated with requests from prospective buyers from back home impressed by his W-plater and in need of similar right handers.
JJSL, I will try and get you his conversion contact or any helpful info.
Hi Moving_on many thanks.
Also, have you had a look at the web site www.mobile.de because your friend will get an idea of what an Iveco will cost across europe, and be able to get a better price.
The truck manufacturers do this all the time, have you ever wondered why the hundereds of Axor 4 x 2s on Tesco never turn up for sale here; its because Merc convert them to lhd, and sell, or re-lease them in the Baltic states and Ukraine. For conversion here I would suggest TVAC in Leyland are well worth a try. www.tvac.co.uk
i remember scanlink in hull converting rhd scanias to lhd for export, when i was in there one day for service i was talkin to one of the fitters & he said it took 80 man hours to convert 1 truck & i should think based on the hourly rate they charge i would’nt be cheap.
there’s a firm in peterborough that does the conversion, i can’t remember what they are called but they’re in first drove on the old jj’s scrapyard.
they are the last place on the left opposite peterborough rugby club
Hi and many thanks, I will try the company in Leyland and I just remembered the place you are talking about in Peterboro, but cannot think of there name, but they also make up wiring looms and tail lift daisy bells.
many thanks again, and I will come back and let you know how I get on

Most of the RHD vehicles end up exported unchanged. as RHD countrys like Africa, India and Pakistan are a massive s/h market for UK truck suppliers who have 1000’s of s/h trucks to dispose of every year, and they all love Mercs and can’t get enough of them, and the UK ones fit perfectly as the steering wheels already on the correct side for their roads .
what about that haulage company from cheshire way i think they are, TURNERS, they run really smart blue ERF’S and if i remember rightly they converted a couple of ecx’s that they had imported, not turners of soham, ‘the other turners’ might be worth giving them a bell if anyone can think of who i mean and find some contact details
have now received an email from TVAC copy attached
We have done these but they are very difficult as the whole cab interior has to change. The cost of such a conversion would be in the region of £15k to £20k. If you wish to speak to me more please call me on the number below.

Can anyone explain why you would have to change the cab interior ?
