Well computers have been around years…Explain why only now? 4 YEARS!

They may actually do that. The penalty is at the magistrates discretion, I have received a short (6 week) ban for speeding, in lieu of the 3 points I should have had. Likewise, if you have mitigating circumstances, you may walk away without points. It all depends on the magistrates, and how you conduct yourself in court. And having a solicitor doesn’t always help. Were you almost there on totting up or was it rather excessive speed?

80mph in a Transit on the A14, was about 14yrs ago, back when I was relatively new to driving for a living, and thought I knew it all.

Suffolklad thanks for your reply. what you have said sounds similar to what the solicitor said. after the 6 weeks does the offence stay on your licence. Has the ban affected your job. the solicitor actually said it would be no benefit to have him and said the magisteate might be more sympathetic if i spoke for myself. thanks Glyn.
Back in 2003, I effectively walked away from a no insurance charge with no points or penalty, the magistrates having dismissed the case, due to mitigating circumstances. I had, up until 7yrs ago, been a regular in the local magistrates court for motoring offences, and fines hearings, have used both representation and represented myself. On one occasion, the magistrates had said they tended to look more favourably on, and respected more, the person who didnt have a solicitor, and took the time and effort, to represent themselves.
As for the many bans and points I have had over the years, I was, most of the time, working for agencies, and never had many problems getting work, even when I managed to end up with 14 points on my licence, and kept my licence. I had, over the years, between 1999 and 2006, at least 6 bans, ranging from 6 weeks to 6 months, with the final ban being in May 2006, 15 months for no insurance.
I look back now and think, what a ■■■■■ not exactly proud of my behaviour back then, but I was young, knew it all and didnt listen to anyone.
I got a IN10 on my licence did something silly like driving with no insurance, mot or tax in a beat up transit van with trailor(I was also younger and didnt care to much back then)
I got a 12month ban and found noone will touch u for a year or so after getting your licence back so I did a load of warehouse work driving a forklift…you also need to declare to eny employers you will now have a criminal conviction of driving with no insurance this shows up on a crb check as well even 14 years later on a enhanced check… I now work for dhl(worst for H&S and everything dotted and underlined) they have no problem with me driving,ok I am a shunter now but they said ok…I was a tyre fiter for many years and both the companys i worked for said no problem with insurance but i did have on 1 job they said the insurance will be higher for me,I paid the extra insurance to get that job as it was only £120 extra for the first year(I await the flack for doing that now but as there was no jobs about that i wanted to do and that works out £10 extra a month for a very well paid job I thought it was ok with me.
oh and my car insurance went up a little but i found nfu accepted me ok and after 1 year it went down a lot more…

Definitely excessive speed then, Transit speed limit would have been 50mph on single carriageway NSL or 60mph on a dual NSL. So it appears the beak decided to ban you rather than impose points due to your excessive speed.

It was on the A14 at Newmarket, went past the services, saw the police car but not the copper, didnt think anything of it, until I got further up the road and I got pulled.
