Blimey O’Carry, still flogging that dead horse I see. And you blamed me for taking this off topic. Give it up, you’re talking total nonsense and you know it. Just admit you’re wrong for once.

So what happened in Ireland when the potato famine was in full swing? Did they all stay and work their way out of it or did the scatter all over the known world to escape poverty?

They scattered due to the policies being implanted by the British government of the day, which was to suppress the Irish people. Take a trip to Donegal and see the famine village museum if you thought the UK slums were bad in the 19th century try living in a peat bog it was stay and starve or emigrate, listen to the words of The Fields of Athenry. And yes during the potato famine people did work for a meagre ration a day who do you think built all the stone walls in the Mourne Mountains? Think it would be called slave labour today and unlike the Germans who have had to pay reparations for their use of slave labour the Irish had to make do with an apology from Tony Blair!!!

Very true it’s the same for the immigrants today they are just trying to have a better life for there family’s

No one is denying that. However there is a point where the ‘amount’ of immigration starts to affect the level of prosperity that they actually moved for thereby defeating the object. In addition to affecting the actual indigenous national identity which is all about population levels and demographics.IE there’s not much point in being a nationalist if you’re then going to allow an open door immigration policy that defeats the object of nationalism by diluting the indigenous population.

I think you will find most protestants in northern ireland come from a scotish background Geoffrey hence my mention of celtic and rangers to define the two groups.
Outside ulster the orange order is a pretty big thing in glasgow and edinbourgh. And there isa bit of a following in the north west round liverpool.
The unionists in scotland are well behind the no to indipenince vote as it breaks the union and could too be the begining of the end for northern ireland.

So exactly what and who is it that the ‘unionists’ in both Scotland and Ulster want to be,and so far are,‘united’ in a ‘union’ with.As I said the ‘union’ flags applying in both places are a clue.As was/is the Ulster banner. :bulb:

But just to answer your question, again. Northern Ireland is in a union with Great Britain, Scotland with England and Wales, which together make up Great Britain, the Great Britain named quite clearly in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I’ve no idea why you are finding this so hard to understand. Even if Northern Ireland were simply in a Union with England it doesn’t mean there was ever an English border in Ireland or that the Northern Irish (or Irish before partition) were ever English, as was your frankly ridiculous original assertion

its all to do with Religion :unamused:

Not really.the difference is in this country there’s no problem with me being officially CofE by my parental choice when I was christened. But as part of that rejecting most of the values held by that Church which are nothing but a compromised view of right and wrong set up to the reflect the personal desires of a dictatorial psycopathic adulterer. :bulb:

Yes we know that. But there is a point where we have to say enough. Before it affects wage rates, demands for housing and services and the national identity and demographics of the country.

But looking at it logically. The common link between both being the union with England.Hence the Ulster banner and the Union flag.

And on and on he goes.

Seems like they’ve always been a small community, but decades of invasions and persecution has seen a virtual demise of them and that is unlikely to get any better a bit like the Christians in Iraq.

So why not go back home to where they belong amongst their own which wouldn’t involve crossing Asia and Europe to get there.IE the Punjab’s Sikh majority isn’t exactly known for being in an ethnic or poverty disaster zone. While India seems to be rich enough to buy up swathes of what remains of Britain’s industry.Maybe they should start to use the money and human resources to improve their own country instead of over loading ours.
