I cant remember the hualier name, but they used to work mainly from Immingham doing unaccompanied trailers for Frans Maas Scandanvian services (scanside). I was on Scanside for a couple of years out of Harwich and sometimes Immingham and would run with there drivers from time to time.

No sorry, you’re thinking of Graham Howlett. He had the Strato from new (I never drove that), I had the Scania for a while after he’d got out of it. Graham lives in Perth, Aus. now, been there nearly 20 years… don’t time fly■■?

Yeah, thats him. I was thinking about him having emigrated, but thought he might’ve come back. didnt he have family over there already. Y eah time goes at a rapid rate

Were you doing that Hayes trunk that Franny took on for FM from Great Yarmouth.

If you took on that Scania after Graham, then thats when I would’ve been working for Buxton’s, we had 4 motors on for FM transport (thats what FM named their distribution work from GY wharehouse) .

I used to see this bloke loading at Brownhills on a Friday night regularly, being a step frame it needed to be backed in the wharehouse to strip out and load from the side. If I remember corectly the fifth wheel had a Nylon plate on it and a matching one was on the underside of the trailer rubbing plate, this prevented the need for grease on the fifth wheel keeping things a bit cleaner, it is the only time I’d seen that type of set up.

Didnt know the him (Alex) on a personal level, just to chew the cud over a coffee a few times. RIP to Alex, another fine fellow

Thanks Eddie fore your replay.
