what a good read about frans mass.unfortunatly i do not have any photo s of frans mass, but i work with the drivers who were taken over by dsv on the brantano contract out of brownhills depot.
they are:paul spencer (manager) steve swanson. paul sheard(sheba) geoff duke, wyndam jones, chris candlin, lyndon foster adam spencer, rich harrison, glen zarkorski, alan southall has given up driving and frank(cannot remember surname)retired,if any one would like to pass on any messages to them i will gladly pass them on,but you only have a week left as ceva has taken over the contract and we are all taking redundancy, they often talk about brownhills and you can see that they all enjoyed their jobs their when they talk about the old times, when i go into work on monday i will ask if they have any photos to put on hear, once again thank you for a great thread

My fleet engineer at Tilbury Paul Eve supplied the trucks for that contract and organised the maintenance so I guess he would have dealt with Paul Spencer, I recognise the name. It’s funny you hear time and time again that everyone really enjoyed working for the company, no matter what depot they came from, must be something in that.

Who nows samthing abbout this sub contractors off Frans Maas U.K.
Volvo F10 - Sub-contractor: Gordon Wright
Volvo F12[
Regards, Bert Wolters
Gordon Wright was from Melton Constable in North Norfolk, he was a general haulier with a dozen or so motor, but had packed up by the end of the 80’s, his 2 boys are still in transport as far as I know. but I have not seen either for a long time.
My 1st hgv job was for Gordons nephew (john daniels) in 89, and that was when I first came accross Frans Maas doing unaccompanied from Great Yarmouth.
Did Felgate Bob operate an FL in the early 90’s .
Nice to see those Ronnie Hart motors, I seem to remember a 112 scania with a globe trotter type roof on it, that was a nice piece of kit(sorry if its allready been posted have’nt been thru whole thread) they had some blokes doing Scanside unacompanieds from Harwich and Immingham in the early 90’s when I was on that same job.

Here it is, & a couple more
Hello Bert,
It’s great looking at this thread about Frans Maas.
I used to drive a Mercedes 2033 in Frans Maas colours (C59 FBW) for Alan Hutt from Witney, nr Oxford back in the late 1980’s, mainly doing groupage work out of Brownhills depot, to and from Spain.
Alan Hutt started in the early 1980’s with just one truck, a MB 2028 (A340 LJO) which you already have pictures of, pulling a Reingold trailer.
Towards the late 1980’s, he operated about five trucks, all of which pulled mainly Frans Maas trailers, doing mostly Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy.
I drove C59 FBW all over Europe, but mainly on Spanish work, of which, I’ve got great memories of, and met some great people along the way.
There used to be a Frans Maas agent in Zona Franca, in Barcelona, run by a guy called Sante, who would always make you a coffee, and would do almost anything for you.
The companies trading name was Rowley Hutt International, and Alan was one of the best bosses I ever worked for.
I have quite a few pictures, but I only have a printer, not a scanner, but I will try and put some on here sometime.
Keep up the good work. Regards, Keith.
