Hungary

Hello peoples of Trucknet. What’s the story with tolls and Hungary? Never done it in a truck before and heading there tomorrow. Someone said its something similar to Toll Collect? Is it? And would they take AS24 or no? Thanks in advance.

Hi Luke, I have a trip to Hungary soon and was looking into the same thing. It seems there are terminals as well as boxes like the Maut system.
Hope this bit of info helps.

Good stuff thank you. Am looking forward to it. Long time since I visited a new country in the lorry!

Yep same here, I’ve not been there since 2009.

You can buy the road tax when you enter Hungary. You can get it by the day. If you are there a few days it can work out cheaper to get a week.
Not sure about your card, but should think most places take the major ones.
Have a great time, the roads are good and I find the people friendly, and things are good value.

As Of july They changed it from a daily tax to a distance based tax like the German system from what I’ve read, with the option of fitting a toll box or paying at a terminal.

Opps I was there in February, and didn’t realise it had changed! Please ignore me:)

I always go via nickelsdorf.
At the border there’s a weighbridge, Just ignore it. I’ve been loads of times and just crept past in case he shouted and balled for not stopping, But he’s not bothered. There’s usually a big que of those willing to be parted with their hard earned florints.
It’s a vignette system. Don’t get it at the border (far too busy). carry on to the next services about 2 miles up the road.
loads of parking everywhere.
Enjoy, it’s a loveley country.

If you are tipping in Budapest, Don’t go through the city you’ll clip the tram cables.
They go BANG.

Off subject[apol. to op] but at h/a border on my way out into austria I was pulled and asked for a kilometre form which I did not have. This resulted in my going to the agent[hungarcamion] and obtaining one, which involved producing signed cmr, agent ringing customer,a lot of time and a lot of money. How I got through the border without one on my way in I don’t know, the customer looked a bit bemused but said nothing. What I want to know after waffeling on is do you still need them

Thanks for the link, seems I can book it online which will suit me just fine

Its bloody expensive these days!
Off to budapest tonight!

The Hungarians could teach the Germans something about how to build an easy to use efficient tolling system. Hu-Go is so easy to use online, just booked my trip for the morning online in a couple of minutes.

Good news that its all pretty straight forward, next challenge is to see how trouble free the new French ecotaxe system will be.

The German system can be a real nightmare. I used to do a lot of work to Germany and any one who says theres always a petrol station next to every exit of the autobahn and its not a problem has obviously never been to Germany in a truck since the introduction of the MAUT. As my reloads were often multiple collections in the Ruhr and short journeys have a very short time limit before the ticket expires, buying the whole thing in advance wasn’t an option as if you were an hour or so getting a collection on, the next stage would already have expired, and if you thought you were being clever by moving the starting time of the journey ahead an hour, then you can guarantee you’d be loaded in 10 minutes and then have to wait before you were allowed on to that section of Autobahn.

Exactly, reloaded in a small town once. Got out my toll collect list and the only machine was at a petrol station on the opposite side of town from the autobhan. Headed there and the station had about enough room for 2 fiestas, had to stop outside blocking the road while getting my ticket then it was about 5 mile down the road to get turned and head back to the autobahn.
