Exactly, reloaded in a small town once. Got out my toll collect list and the only machine was at a petrol station on the opposite side of town from the autobhan. Headed there and the station had about enough room for 2 fiestas, had to stop outside blocking the road while getting my ticket then it was about 5 mile down the road to get turned and head back to the autobahn.

I had that loads of times. Getting to the stupid little car petrol stations was often only half the battle, getting turned around again and back to the Autobahn was often just as bad. Coming across low bridges while on these escapades in German towns was another thing. In one day of groupage collections in and around Wuppertal, Monchen Gladbach and Krefeld I totaled more than 3 hours of wasted driving time looking for MAUT machines. Upon complaining to my boss about the situation and how he needed to get a box fitted his only response was “Oh well, it can be a pain at times, can’t it?”

You should also have the option to have a 9 or 11 break added to the time window for shortish trips its ok for runs to Berlin dresden Munich etc it gives you enough time break included but would be alot less hassle if u could add break in

They have the gantries so they know if you’ve paid or not, so why a time limit? If you have a box you just drive and go with no time limits on any thing. Their ANPR would surely be able to tell them if you’ve been past a gantry twice but only paid once etc.

Weve had the same discussion with our boss and his answer is always the same “I’m not paying £1000 to get a box installed as we dont go there regularly”
I use the app on my tablet to locate the nearest maut machine. It is a nitemare sometimes, now for example when we go to Essen we stay parked up and walk to the garage as its ok to get our 12t without its trailer in but anything bigger is carnage.:grin:

£1000 for a maut box? i was told by a brit who lives and works in germany its around 300-400 euros to have a box fitted and programmed

Oh yeah fitted in Germany, that would be the sensible thing to do, but we don’t do sensible at our place :grin::grin:

My former boss used to maintain that DAF or Merc who he had the trucks from on a 3 year lease would not allow it to be done by any one but themselves and they charged much more. In reality I doubt he ever looked in to it. Besides, the more common of the two MAUT boxes doesn’t seem to be that invasive, just a box on the windscreen thats wired in to the trucks electical supply for constant power, I dont see how that could be a problem on a lease etc.

I’ve just been on to have a look into the cost of taking a coach to Budapest and I cant see if it only applies to trucks. The website keeps only making references to Heavy goods vehicles.

We run leased Mercs. My MAUT box was fitted by Daf in Rotterdam for at least half of that price…
It isn’t invasive at all, Mercs come pre-wired and I expect most other European made trucks do too, now. So it’s just a case of plugging the wires in, sticking that gantry sensor jobby to your windscreen and running a system check. Most of the time it takes is spent programming company/vehicle details into the box, from what I could understand. It took under an hour in total, from handbrake on to driving away.

I emailed them and they replied I only need an e-vignette from en-ematrica.autopalya.hu/
So the Hu-go must only be for trucks?

husks down at dover fit them for a couple hundred £££ I have done Germany with a box and without a box and the last time I didn’t check the route against my sat nav cost me 180 euros I must save 3hrs a day with a box worth every penny and I would buy my own if my truck wasn’t fitted with one lol…
