I am thinking making change in summer for health reasons to tippers,so how much does it cost to get card to allow you work on tippers do companies put you thru it?? Any info would be helpful cheers
What? …You need a special card to drive a ■■■■ tipper now? …ffs!
It’s getting to the stage now where you just about need a licence/card/qualification/certificate or whatever ‘they’ can come up with, to ■■■■■■ ■■■■ nowadays
Im sure someone like muckaway will be along surely to clariify this but afaik, you dont need any special card for tippers. The only extra card i know of is what you need to get into the quarries, think its called a epic card?

Sounds perfectly reasonable mate.
You need a northern accent to order a pint of John Smiths down here in the south!
Epic card I thought all tipper lads needed this card this is why I was asking?
The only “card” you might need is the EPIC now called MPQC card and it’s not law. It’s only required by the big national quarry firms to haul for them, so if you worked for an independant it’s not necessary unless they sub for someone like Hanson. Avoid these places on rigids as you’ll be rushed about to make up for the stupid delays in loading.
The muckshifters don’t bother with it, they’ll more likely do the CSCS site card. I’ve no idea what this entails as I’ve never been asked to do it, some like Earthline don’t do anything.
My advice is stick to a smaller independant firm who supply rather than do third party haulage and you’ll have an easier life, without the ridiculous obsession with plastic goggles and gloves just to walk to the weighbridge.
A epic card is for loading from quarries you don’t have to have it to drive tippers

More so for working out of them, I have an EPIC card but never get asked for it when collecting out of Hansons.

Mega +1…
So does that mean the Agricultural Training Board, or more to the point, their bureaucratic pen pushing overlords, insist on a ticket @ stupid £ per implement that can be attached to a farm tractor…
H&S freaks need to get a life. They’re nothing but an adversary to industrial progress.
rant over.

Thought a CSCS card for building sites might help. But when you look there’s about 1000 courses Didn’t know I needed proper training on how to open a curtain. First time I had to I asked another driver.
£130 + VAT, so £156 to be exact. It’s a 1-day course, with an exam at the end.
As far as I know, the EPIC course could be taught by anyone, but now it’s purely done through the Mineral Products Qualifications Council (Hence it’s now called a MPQC Card).
It’s like the CSCS Card, so basically you need it to even set foot on a quarry. It’s more than likely that you’ll come across a quarry in your time driving a tipper, especially if you’re carrying aggregates.
Once you’ve got it, you’ve got it, and I think it counts towards your CPC hours too. It’s still £150 you need to invest, or earn back, you have to bear-in-mind.
Employer might require you to have CSCS and rarely EPIC/MPQC, but in reality you will be asked to show your card maybe in 1 out of 1000 sites you go.
Some advertisements on job board list these as requirement, some employers would ask you to show them upon interview and see that as pluss.
Both cards are quite cheap and easy to get, CSCS you can do yourself by booking test and going to the same place where you did licence theory test and doing the same thing - sitting in front of computer and clicking multiple choice questions.
I think, but not entirely sure, CSCS was <20gbp per test + <40gbp for card.
EPIC/MPQC - don’t know exactly but think this is done by either third party trainin provider or employer internally.
It was more expensive when I last googled it than CSCS, and was sitting in a classroom thingy more than just theory tesy as in CSCS case.
Do CSCS first as it is cheaper, easier and more interesting for employers unless in your area you have limited options and the only ones you have nearby require quarry card.
You can learn CSCS test questions by watching youtube videos - google yourself.
CSCS will also be more usefull in future as it can be used on other work than driving as well, for example if you are unlucky to get kicked out of driving and licence with CSCS card you can always go and do something in construction sites, where as EPIC/MPQC has literally only one purpose - quarry visiting…
Thanks again lads good info great forum
I have done some tipper work ,loading from quarries and taking planings away that sort of thing.I dont have and havent been asked for any special card for this work.

Not true on both counts. You don’t need it to set foot in a quarry if you’re collecting materials or how would builders, landscape gardeners, diddy coys etc get their materials? I’m always in quarries owned by MPQC members and get no bother. I do the odd load for one, often to a premix plant owned by another member.
The MPQC card lasts for 5 years, according to mine which has never been asked for since I got it in 2012.
Quarries. Q & C’s they’ll be giving university degrees to the zb Flintstones next

ATB is now LANTRA and you DO need a ticket for sprayers including everything from a knapsack to an SP with 30m booms. All different courses of course so they can screw every last £ out of you you even need a ticket to dip sheep FFS
I’ve got a drawer full of certs kicking around somewhere

It’s a joke Rob we go every five years to re new the card/do the course. It can be added towards your DCPC
The trouble is it means nothing because everywhere you go you still do inductions so it’s meaningless lol
Also now thrown into the mix the big player’s are stipulating that you are FORS Registered. So that’s another course you do
DCPC and FORS contradict each other but as you know they have to be done.

You don’t have to do FORS. Just an employer that knows where to get other work. FORS specific jobs around here are done by the rate cutters and tear arses.
We aren’t FORS registered, never done a cycle awareness course and I have no side underruns but still keep in work.
