Thanks for that chicane. As for ATB, I stand corrected. I remember the scandal were dip compound was concerned; phosphorus based if I remember correctly.
Crop sprayers. The part I member there, don’t spray on a windy day or when it’s raining. Other than that, chemicals were’nt as severely governed some 35 years ago as they are now… Advice on the product and necessary safety equipment were minimal by today’s standards.

 What? …You need a special card to drive a [zb] tipper now? …ffs!
It’s getting to the stage now where you just about need a licence/card/qualification/certificate or whatever ‘they’ can come up with, to [zb] ■■■■ nowadays
It’s a joke Rob we go every five years to re new the card/do the course. It can be added towards your DCPC
The trouble is it means nothing because everywhere you go you still do inductions so it’s meaningless lol
Also now thrown into the mix the big player’s are stipulating that you are FORS Registered. So that’s another course you do
DCPC and FORS contradict each other but as you know they have to be done.
Means nothing? Meaningless? That just about fits the bill for all this type of bullcrap in the job today bud.
I don’t know a lot about FORS (mainly as I aint the slightest bit interested enough to find out) but DCPC you mention… a classic example of lip service with a view to be seen on the surface to be doing something, but with no real substance in reality, but plenty of expense.
Just about sums up all these ■■■■ schemes/scams in the job today.

FORS is meaningless BUT the big companies are stipulating now that you have to be registered so no FORS no work.
The trouble is they’ll be another scheme and another and another it’s never ending
Its was organophosphates in the sheep dip and also in the Warble fly treatment we were forced to use by the government, caused a lot of long lasting neural damage in some farmers. Guy I know is affected by Lindane poisoning but it took years to show, really nasty.
We had to have an EPIC card for our quarry, we spent an evening at a pub listening to a ten year old from ‘tossmac’ telling us how lorries would always be loaded correctly and we would never need to get on the back to level a load as the shovel drivers were that good! I never used it though as I had finished driving but I think they need renewing every so often?

The MPQC is a bit stupid to be fair. I was misinformed on my last post, and it appears that you do have to renew it every 5 years. It counts as 7 hours towards your CPC, although it’s £156 per day, as opposed to £85 per day which my local training provider charges for bog-standard CPC. So nigh-on twice as much as a day of CPC training costs! The Mineral Products Qualification Council must be rubbing their hands, and hoping that it becomes a legal requirement!
I imagine you should only go for it if your job absolutely demands it. Either that, or you’ve got £150 in your pocket that your happy to hand over, in exchange for another card to add to the ever-growing collection.

Sounds about right! I can drive an older Volvo or a terberg all day no problem at all but I am not authorised to take a new Volvo out on the road because the handbrake is different. I am permitted to move one in the yard though
How long before you cant go for a pee without a manual handling course
Welcome to my world of cards and its associated BS. CSCS is a requirement on all construction sites. As a driver you would be expected to have a yellow visitors card. Cost £47 Training material is from CITB and you can book a touch screen test direct with them.
As for the Lantra stuff don’t go there. Its a different ticket for everything from knapsack spraying to quad spraying. Cross cut Chainsaw to aerial chainsaw…
I
If all construction sites want CSCS cards, then how come have I never been asked for one? I know I only do small sites now, but I used to get on large projects and was never asked. I’ve only had two inductions in 15 years of driving. One at T5 Heathrow (nosy ■■■■■ wanted all bar inside leg measurement) and one for an A34 bridge job.

Totally agree, it’s just big companies covering their arse. Started back on tippers a few years ago so had to do the EIPC course in the first week I went to Cemex at rugby to be told i had to do an induction so spent over an hour watching stupid videos that had nothing to do with my job. And to make matters worse i was loading clinker for tilbury and when I got there i had to sit through the same videos that i had seen in rugby.
A tip for those doing the MPQC card test; Out of the 25 or so questions, tipper drivers only need to answer the first 20. The last few are for mixer drivers. I was bored and answered the mixer ones and got a card for them too. I’ve never driven one in my life but I’m now safe and competent to be let loose on one. Complete joke, but something to add to your CV nonetheless.

Muckaway its got worse and worse over the last couple of years. We do a lot of Highways fencing and one off delivery drivers will have a brief safety talk and be expected to produce a visitors card and be escorted. Regular drivers will have a full induction and be expected to have a CRO (construction related occupation) card. As a “manager” I am expected to have a black managers card which is obtained by professional qualifications (at a rough cost of £1500).
In a simialr vein, the plant operators MPQC cards for quarry machinery is as just a joke; I had three separate tickets for the three loading shovels. Two were Volvos of the same age, just that one was an L160 the other an L120. Apart from the bucket on the 160 being bigger they were identical to drive. When my CITB tickets were valid, one loading shovel ticket sufficed.
