I passed my class2 in feb 2005, i did 1 and 1/2 days training and then had the test, came to £380, did the same for class1, so total was £760, my instructor said i was ‘pushing it’ to have so little training before the test but i was thinking of spending as little as possible I trained with a grumpy old bloke called alan dehny in worcester.
hi
Hi KLS, its cost me1500 squids and 89 squid for the retest on my c + e. Passed my c+e earlier this month.
Hi Starlocation, I’d have to disagree mate. The job I started at the begining of this week on days has no stress involved whatsoever. All I need to do is drive to Gloucester, Drop a trailer, reverse my unit onto the trailer that is being loaded up and then drive back to my original location. I thought I was supposed to help them load up but all I need to do is put it on break once Iv’e connected it up and chill out. Too good to be true I know but it is. On occasions maybe twice a week I have to drive to accrington with 1 or two pallets on the back and they offload them with an flt, Thats as stressful as it gets.
The last two nights I have driven upto Glasgow with the guy who works opposite shift to me so he could show me his job as he’s off for a couple of nights soon so they will get agency in to cover my days.
Sooooo… No stress at all woohoo! Get c + e work… Highly recommended in my opinion
Nothing really changes. I took my test in 1979 and it still cost a months wages
i took my Class one test on the fifth day of a five day training course, these five days were shared with another trainee, so it was 50% driving and 50% learning from the instructor whilst other trainee drove, this was back in the eighties with Heart of England training in Coventry. I think it cost me about £500. I already had a psv licence and grew up on a farm so had plenty of practice driving crash boxes and reversing trailers.

Hi
I dont think it matters how much you spent on training.
it does if your not made of money!

Maybe some people spend 3 times more than you, but have a 10 times better job ?
£1750 for both, that was nearly 4 years ago just sold our flat at the time so had a bit of spare cash, although I could do with it now.
cost me £898 last month for my class 1 training and test doing 4 and a half days training test on 5th day thats a 2/1 ratio . and am sure its the same price for the class 2 .that is with goahead training
Cat C (Apr 07), 5 days, 2 to 1 training, test on the Friday, failed. Further 1 day training plus test, failed. A further 1 days training plus test, passed.
Total including medical, and theory etc approx £1800 (Company paid for the training, and the first two tests a total of around £1500, I offered to pay the third retest and training day out of shame.
Cat C+E, booked on impulse for july, 5 days, 2 to 1 training, test on the Friday, passed . Total £1200
So best part of £3k to go from zero to hero. Still driving 7.5t though
God knows how some of you guys got it so cheap, mind you, this is the south.
about 2,400 to do both [ it did include the hire of a car for about 2 weeks to get there] .it sounds alot but i just used the money i was going to spend on another car to pay for it.
It cost me £1,029 for the first 5 day course and a further £400 something for the further 2 days I needed after failing the first test - I failed the second test too
Now Im driving buses and was paid to take that test, though hopefully I’ll be having a third go soon though…
Truck driving is still something I want to do…
Class C cost me £575 four years ago including the Saturday test fee.
Did Class C+E in March this year which cost £747 for 5 day course plus Friday Test, then another £230 for re-test, then another £230 for a further re-test. (Total £1207)
Decided to stay in current sales role for the time being, whilst driving for Agency on weekends & Bank Holidays to re-coupe the training money.
Luckily I’ve been given class CE work for Spar straight off, so @ £12p/h (£13.50 yesterday), I only have another 10 weekends to go
Ian.
took my class C with L&G group in somerset, cost us 850 for a 5 day 1 to 1 course (four hours a day) 90 quid for the medical and the usual cost for the theory and assorted crap that goes with it ( books DVD etc…) so all up almost a grand.
my class 2 was £550 for 5 day course plus medical and theory in 1999 - im taking class 1 in 2 weeks, 5 day course is £895
I’m just putting my class 2 driver through his class 1 & it is costing me £720.00 for a 3 day course with test on the 4th day.

5 day course with test on friday cost £560
i done all my training with ken irwin of craigavon northern ireland,
highly recommended, past everything first time.
have not done any driving yet
free medical, 1 weeks holiday pay around £250 then…
Medical £29
Theory £21
Class C 3.5 full days 1-1 inc Test £925 (went with a v.expensive company)
Class C Retest £310 (gulp)
Class C+E 5 half days 1-1 inc Test £770 (went for cheaper/quality compromise this time)
Class C+E Retest £240 (still ouch)
Total: £2295
Still, I think i’ll be earning at least that much more than last year hopefully. So to pay off my training in less than a year it’s still worth it.
