How Long Is Your CV

Carryfast:

There’s not much point in just providing fictitious details because with just three main employers for my working life it would defeat the object of providing an account of my work history and I’d be in a no better position anyway. They want real useable contacts.

They don’t know who’s on the other end of a phone from Adam, and you’ve got time on your side so would be believable if you gave them a friends number but said he’s a retired TM. Anything is possible with a bit of thought and effort!. The only thing you’ve defeated is your chance of a job as I assume you didn’t get it?

Here’s me from leaving school in the UK…

Peppers (Hargreaves)
Moores kitchen cabinets
Hudson potatoe merchants
Moores again
Jack Smith haulage
R Durham’s

In the US…
Amatex warehouse
Johns Manville
Carl Subler trucking
Schneider Transport
Wal Mart Transportation.

It ain’t done over the phone it’s a no option online application form.
The only contact provided was an ( incorrect ) e mail address so I phoned the ( rather nice ) secretary at their recruitment who gave me the correct e mail address. The reply provided on that was you must go through the online application process and you must answer all the questions.

Give the NHS a mate’s phone number as a checkable work history contact.Yeah right.Which part of answerable to = name of person and the address of the company didn’t you understand.
Do you really think they are that stupid. They contact the company ‘first’ ‘then’ they ask for the person by name as provided.
They don’t phone a mate on his mobile at the pub.
Your idea would completely defeat the object of their vetting process.
The same issue applies when applying for airport security cleared jobs among others.
It’s a joke.
As I said a DBS check and tax and NI records should be all they’re allowed to ask for and use as a check against the details provided regarding employers and if the places and dates match that should be enough.

Oh that’s sad to hear, we’ve both had our struggles then! I really hope things are getting better. Thankfully for me I’m mostly better now, just slightly less mobility and aches and pains that I’ll probably have for the rest of my days so it could be very very very much worse. How things get better for you. If you ever need to chat to someone who’s been in same position I’ll PM my email to you

Can you remember the car accident, or is it earlier stuff comes back to you first?

No not at all, this year up to accident and latter half of last year at least is a total blank, nothing at all, and frankly the accident is the one thing I hope never comes back to me! The pain must have been insane I was so smashed up. It was bad enough 3 weeks later when I woke from the induced coma

So you don’t remember the £4k I lent you?

Thank you kindly. Yes great isn’t it, great way to refresh the memory and give the brain something to do

I would just like to add that I have never presented a CV to anyone to gain employment. It has been of my opinion that when transport companies in an area seem to use the same pool of drivers, it quickly gets established who is OK and who is not to employ. I have not ever been sacked or dismissed but have always left firms in good faith and able to return to their employ on some occasions multiple times. I feel this is the norm for many in this industry.

i use that thought process in a somewhat different manner as if i cant get to sleep cos im thinking about buying or selling something, then i either try to remember pace by pace some good times out exploring with my now deceased best pal dog, then the other option is trying to visualise coming of the ferry, and visualising the view through the windscreen flat lit on the 75.

on the plus side,i usually can overtake anyone i see in front of me in a flash, and on the down side, ive never made it as far as gretna without either having fallen asleep,or getting a tug from the cops or vosa…

I was actually born in West Germany in Hanover, my dad was 1RHA at Belsen Bergen…
And yes I’m painfully aware of the history of that place…

Hang on I’ve not been here for ages. You nearly died?

My CV is incredibly short. In my 34 years I’ve only had 4 jobs. And for my sins I’m still with the firm that gave me a break into this industry.

Really interesting, thanks everyone! Have a great week all

It is a good job that firms only ask for “last five years” or something similar…

I’ve read it on here that I’m supposedly running out of firms to “try out”, because too many of them dislike me already to be employed there…

OP’s long list - suggest I don’t have much to worry about, assuming that 99% of them have not already gone under by this point, of course… :stuck_out_tongue:
