How Long Is Your CV

Oh dear! I clearly got the wrong end of that particular comment, boom and indeed tish

Apologies for putting the image of me w**king over the reduced section in your head, no one needs that grim thought

was that after a random thought in the fruit and veg section,or did you fancy something cool and delicious from the frozen display??

Reduced section. A yellow sticker showing a steak reduced to 80p got me excited

It’s an interesting exercise and Switch has had a varied career.

From being about 8 years old I didn’t think there was anything more than Road Haulage and Transport. For the last 8 years I have been banging my head thinking how much of a life I have missed. I certainly enjoyed visiting thousands of different places and meeting hundreds of great people. What I did miss out on was life with my wife, we would have had some kids instead of gaining them when I got back with her, our jobs got in the way, she met someone while her oven was on, that didn’t work but I have gained his adult children.

This is like my life has begun again, I have tipped all my groupage and now have a steady run to the yard. :stuck_out_tongue:

Great reply. I was hoping more would do the same and post them, interested in other people experience. So come on friends!

A common complaint in arctic explorers.

More confirmation that some had too much of a good thing while others were bored out of our skulls trapped on local/uk work. :bulb: :frowning:

I’ve no cv , it’s either a application form or a phone call , if it’s a application form the mrs does it as she can spell , her writing is very neat etc , the last one I sent in the bloke commented it was nice to see a neat application form not the scruffy efforts he normally receives , I got the job !!!

No not at all, this year up to accident and latter half of last year at least is a total blank, nothing at all, and frankly the accident is the one thing I hope never comes back to me! The pain must have been insane I was so smashed up. It was bad enough 3 weeks later when I woke from the induced coma

My employers lost seems shorter than most so far.
Bit over a year, NON-HGV on the bagged coal. Never been that fit since.
11 years driving UK, flats, tauts, trombone, Hiab, long and wide, then couple years driving a desk for same company.
First Euro job lasted 12(?) years. Tilts and food tanks (including haz). Full and groupage work.
Another Eu job for 2 yrs.
Current for a UK company doing multi drop and collection mostly France. Over 10 yrs here.
.
France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Lux, Germany, Czechoslavakia, ( plus Czech Republic and Slovakia) Slovenia, Hungary, Greece, Monaco, Andorra, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, including islands, Sicilly, Menorca, Ibiza, Corsica, Sardinia.
.
I’ve done the long trips without spending a night in the UK for over 3 months, I’ve done more weekends than I care to remember.
I regret very little of it, but wouldn’t want to do it all again now.
Just UK /France on multi drop/collection with my weekends home suits me well enough now.
.
I still get a kick from finding new addresses in obscure little villages, and seeing sunsets from the terrace of a dusty Routier Restaurant. Sure I swear in some awkward places, but on the whole it beats punching a button in a factory…or stacking shelves…!

I did…

I tried writing my cv and it reminded me of my manhood: tainted, and not long enough.

the nodding donkey:
I did…

Yup and I’ve enjoyed looking at them all so thank you kindly

Carryfast/UPS with two or three months on agency and doing general haulage during a temporary layoff from there

That’s it.Possibly the shortest CV on record ?.

Bonus points if you can ( more like a deal breaker if you can’t ) put present contact names and addresses to every entry.
That’s what I was recently asked to do when applying for a zero hours NHS path lab courier driver job.
When I asked them how do I provide contact details for long dead managers and addresses for long ago bulldozed bases from more than 30 years ago I was effectively told that’s your problem.
Oh and the recruitment process window will close early like in 24 hours instead of a month because of too many applicants already.
That’s what happens with a 24 year work history covering just a few employers followed by a 21 year gap.

You’re clearly way too honest. There’s no way that at this stage anyone can check up on what you write so just be creative with what you put down  For most of those jobs they were through agency so I’d never have had the number of them anyway as we never had to ring them!

If Carlsberg did agencies.

That was the point they were calling for ‘checkable’ contact details and more than one employer.

There’s not much point in just providing fictitious details because with just three main employers for my working life it would defeat the object of providing an account of my work history and I’d be in a no better position anyway. They want real useable contacts.

At the end of the day they were asking for something that I couldn’t provide and something should be done about this effective black listing situation.

DBS and permission to access Tax and NI records to confirm the employment dates and places provided should be enough.

The same applies to questions regarding ethnicity.

Here goes last 40 years.

  1. Own account company delivering catering equipment across England, Scotland and Wales. 7.5t & 16t rigids.

  2. Driving desk for above company.

  3. Whitbread food. Northern England 16t rigid & 44t trunking.

  4. Wincanton Trafford Park. Night trunker and Shunter.

  5. DHL M&S. Inter-depot trunking.

  6. College. NVQ and DCPC trainer.

  7. Driver Trainer, large logistics company.

One or two odds and sods on agency and about a dozen double man European trips in the last 4 years, but managed to always be working.

When I do my CV, as some body previously stated all but my present employer have closed depots or even ceased trading, so contact names and telephone numbers are irrelevant.

switchlogic you have my best wishes , after my “accident” in march i know as well as you do that life changes in an instant and not for the good!,my memory is also shot along with other brain related stuff, eyes etc. But enough of that.so newest first…GDT enterprises grain hauler… J.D******* end dump. BBCL super B gravel/sand hauler ,mixer driver… len dubois trucking distance driver. thats canada out the way. and iirc 7driving jobs 1981-2008 some a dayor two only and one job 21yrs lol . sorry if spelling ,set up wrong as typing at 175% as eyes wonky. james
