How do you get a job as a traffic officer with them, not that im thinking about doing it as i like my job just wondered thats all, is it as simple as applying for the job on the website?
I also wondered how to get a job as a postman? Not that I’m bothered, just wondered…maybe I could just apply
Check here…
Don’t know for sure but imagine they would be looking for people with a background in mechanics on trucks for the practical stuff, and maybe some low-level legal qualifications for the pen-pushing.
There was a job advertised in Wakefield in 2009 as a Vosa controller, basically the Vosa man on the road’s boss. It was around £22k!

Blimmy you have to know your stuff then looking on the website, i bet it would make for an interesting job but having to deal with big accidents would probably be hard to handle at first.

Are you getting your roles mixed up role
They are Vehicle Inspectorate, Dft ,
Not Emergency services nor Police, and not traffic management nor wombles neither ,
…
. that would account for why there is an initial sift me thinks

Don’t think you need to be a mechanic Harry, I think you are taught what to look for and how to interpret the big book. I once had a question for a tester who answered if it ain’t in the book tuff. Basically he couldn’t answer me as he used to be a salesman
i could always ask in the vosa test place next to where i work

when i was between job’s, i went to an ATF facility, spoke to a few vosa employee’s their. and well it went like this
are you in the motor trade?
yep (pulled out the mot card at this point), explaned that i am a 4/7 tester
he went, wouldn’t bother mate, they want to employ people who don’t know sod all about motor’s in general, to train them up their way…
which is true, i see it every day, mot view point is ok, may be pass and advise, only when it is hanging off you think about a fail, but from a service point it’s knackered. on a mot you think “is that ok now?” not “is that gonna be ok in 6mth”.
the vosa annual test is a minimum standard so stuff has to be pretty much hanging off to get a fail. theres different roles in vosa the testing lads are ok mostly ex psv lgv fitters and do know there stuff. the people who do the roadside stuff have to do allsorts including the stuff we see plus mot garage checks fleet checks going to the tc and stuff like that i noticed they have posters up in the stations asking for testing staff so maybe there short staffed

Work hard before you apply and pay off your mortgage, because you wont get rich working for them.

I disagree, there must be some scope for decent backhanders for “turning a blind eye”
