How do they check up on foreign EU vehicles in UK

So I am sure this may of been discussed before
But how do the traffic police and/ or VOSA check up to see if a foreign vehicle has tax MOT and insurance?

Thanks
TC

For the insurance side of it they have a UK handler who covers them while they are here. I know that from experience of a polish lorry going into the side of me.

Same as in the case of ours going over there. You’re supposed to carry all the relevant documents related to the vehicle with you to produce if requested.

We carry all the documents with us, an Irish registered lorry shows tax, insurance, MOT and hauliers licence on discs in the windscreen first thing DVSA look at when you get pulled. The same way when a UK lorry gets pulled on the continent he has to produce all his documents there and then.

I drove a German registered truck to the UK every week from 1999 to 2004 and never got stopped once. The firm had six trucks on for LKW Walters and none ever had a pull in the UK.

I see you are from Derry. is this a N.I plated lorry or a S.I plate you drive?
I know that the N.I equivalent of Swansea merged with Swansea not so long ago.

I am most interested about the MOT side of things though.
Do the Police/ VOSA share a computerised data base with any other EU member state such as Ireland?

Translates as the control freaks want to make a Big Brother Orwellian type nightmare for themselves and everyone else applying from Iceland to the Iranian border.

Nope, all on paper.

I drive a southern registered lorry, when Coleraine and Swansea merged it was all the vehicle details that went to Swansea so now if you are in an N.I. registered vehicle you will get fined for camera offences in GB however licence details are still separate so points are only added to your N.I. licence if you end up in court, with regards to MOT’s think that they will be able to check online in the same way as they do about insurance

So you think the police in GB can check up online if a S.Ireland plated motor has any MOT or not?
Or where you referring to N.Ireland plates?

If I understand correctly,European police forces have access to Swansea’s driver and vehicle data now and have the ability to pursue drivers who are flashed by their speed cameras.Rather a lot of Brit plated cars on the costas have also been clamped as having been in spain several years and show no sign of British ved being paid.I also understand that DVLA doesn’t have the benefit of the same approach as european police forces.I stand open to correction on this.

Don’t know how or why he was caught but there was a Greek Scania parked at dartford this afternoon with one of those nice green cycle locks on. On the side of the cab was the legend “bad attitude” l wonder if that had any influence on the dvsa

Think they would be able to plus you have to have the MOT disc in the window if it is on Southern plates so as soon as they see that missing you will be parked up until you can prove it is in test. The authorities talk to each other a lot more now an Irish licence can be checked whether it is valid or not by the police in the UK and DVSA do talk to their Irish equivalent the RSA so am guessing they could check if the MOT is in date, road tax is ok as if you have no tax in the UK as it is not breaking the UK’s law you will be ok.

All across the Malaga Province theres literally hundreds of abandoned cars just dumped on the roadside. Many of these vehicles are just used to get here from the UK and as evidenced by the thick layer of dust/sand have been here a very long time. As you say though, theres plenty being used with no ITV or ins but the Police seem to be clamping down on this recently in quite a big way.

Ref docs, wherever i go i always keep with me all relevant documentation for the truck, makes things much easier on you if stopped. Re DVLA. i too dont think they access to Euro reg vehicles…

What do you think the polices position hear in GB would be if the vehicle had no NCT on it?

Would say that with no NCT you would get done but chances of being stopped in a car are small once you clear the ports

I understand what you are saying and once I arrive at Liverpool with my new van the chances of being stopped are slim.
I mean if I had a GB van with no MOT on it then every time I drove pass a police car with ANPC the police would detect I have no MOT
But with these foreign vehicle is this simply not the case?

But in the off chance I was stopped in my van and asked to produce all my paper work and I had no NCT certificate what do you think would happen next?
About 5 years ago hear in GB we had a fancy piece of paper for an MOT certificate, in the corner of the certificate was stamped with a perforated stamp that impregnated the paper and was stamped by who ever issued the mot and of course this special stamp had to be keep inside the MOTs testing stations safe under lock and key.
Nowadays the system is all a computerised database and what they issue you with now (hear in GB) is a simple ordinary piece of A4 paper that anyone could of printed off from there home printer with black ink. What dose the NCT certificate look like in the republic of Ireland nowadays?

Ow and finally if I had a registration number plate to put into the search of this web site, do you think it would tell me if it had any tax NCT insurance or not?

looks like a hypothetical can of worms opening up here…the mystery deepens…why dont you just come out with whatever con it is your going t try and wangle and itl be easier to advise instead of fishing… however.if your on eire plates your invisible to anpr and cameras in the uk as the fines wont follow across the border, same as if you go through the dublin tolls in a uk vehichle…the regd owner wil start getting official looking paperwork from a uk debt collection agency who have absolutely no authoroty to do so on dublins behalf,so just meaningless and after a cpl weeks will stop.despite improving cross border relations somewhat, then ireland is not overly eager to interact with northern ireland and the rest of the uk though it has to do so in certain respects but they wont exactly go out of their way in doing so.
