hit anything?

When I was on rigids I hit a car that decided to make an illegal right turn in front of me at the monmouth traffic lights, wrote the car off and a passenger went to hospital. I managed to break about 5 rear light lenses by hitting various walls trying to reverse into super tight hotel car parks. Managed to put a small dent in a car when trying to reverse into one drop, If he didn’t park like a ■■■■ he might not have received it. On artics I have ripped a trailer mud guard off when reversing up over a kerb, lost a trailer rear light lense in some farmers yard, Smashed the n/s font corner of the cab on a telephone pole when reversing into a tight plumbers merchants, ended up with a broken mirror cover and step. And also side swiped a car in liverpool, I pulled out of an ind est and had to get across 3 lanes of traffic at rush hour to get to my turning which was 50yds up the road, I had salt covered mirrors plus the morning sun and couldnt see f-all, managed to clear 2 lanes but ended up side swiping some woman as i moved into the 3rd lane

In my first couple of weeks into my driving career, in a 7.5 toner pulled into a tight street in wednesbury parked cars either side I took a wing mirror off a crappy old fiesta this nice old chap walking down the street told me about it, I said cheers and he went on his way. The place I was delivering to was at the end of the street about 10 yards from the car I’d clipped I told them about it and said when he wakes up (it was 0530) tell him the firms number they’ll sort it out no problem. They said yeah it’s happened before that guy is sorted he won’t mind. So off I goes on my merry way. A couple of days later my gaffer collared me in the yard and said the police have been on you’ve got to go to Cannock cop shop and make a statement when your next down that way. So I did, the copper said he had no idea why over a wing mirror and not to worry it’ll go no further. 5 months later I got a summons for Walsall magistrates. Long story I know (there’s more) but I ended up with 5 points for leaving the scene of a accident, and my license endorsed with failing to report and driving without due care and attention. Along with £400 fine.

There was a witness (the nice old bloke) who rang the police said I’d damaged a car and drove off, the guy who’s car it was didn’t even ring the police. I was younger then. If it happened now there’s no way I’d have taken it on the chin like I did. Put it down to experience.

Try and get a car insurance quote with Ac10 on your license, wasn’t fun.

surprise surprise, I expected a few" I’ve never hit nowts "to comment, but no one would have believed them anyway.

How long you got…

How long you got…

to be on the safe side 12 months

Gate post, rocks, a stable and the entrance barrier to our depot, which i managed to take clean off.

I swiped a car in my first week as a driver as well :unamused:

a few years ago travelling south on the m6 just before j29, a clown in a sky van came down my offside, and just as he was about to pass pretty much rammed my offside taking out the side repeater of the atego i was in, then the muppet rammed again as he wanted to exit, i pulled over just after the exit and watched the guy tear off, luckily i have a good memory and clocked his reg before phoning the office and informing them, old bill were called and details taken, dont know how it ended up though,
same thing again a few months later, coming down m1 near j10 in the roadworks, i had an artic right behind me, another just alongside in lane 2 and guy in a van coming down the slip road, obvioulsy thought he could make it out in time, but alas he didnt, another side reapeater bit the dust and how there wasnt a pile up i dont know!!
in my new truck last year, i had a job to deliver some air conditioning filters to the national gallery off orange street in london, reversing down into the loading area a guy was (supposed) to be watching my n/s/f on the armco barrier but wasnt watching it closely enough, cue the scrape, result was a horrible scuff and a small crack of the bumper, told the tm about it when he came back from hols, his response, oh yeah should be a 7.5t max truck in there, cheers boss!!!

As i’m sure many drivers who collect/deliver off farms will agree, it’s inevitable you’re gonna hit something. Caught diesel tank on a farm weighbridge, step and bumper on a little wall concealed under grass and in October I managed to hit a 59 plate BMW just near Trowell services on M1 northbound. He had tried to undertake me to go into the services but as I was fully freighted I had lost power on the hill and pulled back in without even seeing him there. OOPS!!!

Like Washy Jnr how long have you got lol brief high lights
On nights delivering chicken feed reversed in to a hen house (which was on skids) and pushed it 20ft into the field.
Same job drove off with the blower pipe still attached to the shed
Ripped the mud flaps of a Daf on a farm loading wheat
While trying to keep up with a mate around Milton Keynes in identicle ERF bulk blowers at 1am i managed to come off a roundabout side ways and wiped out the rear end of a Ford Mondeo but he really should of had insurance

Once again mate your making me look good…that said i did take a 3 day old 06 plate DAF 85 cf out for a run to exeter, got to J9 M40 and some muppet pulled in front of me and i didnt stop :open_mouth: nearly P45 time, his Volvo estate came off a lot worst

a few years ago i caught a bus, and i do mean caught a bus, it had been raining but the sun was now shining causing glare off the wet road and the bus i was following did an emergency stop in front of me, well i hit the brake but being fully laden it just pushed me (24 ibc’s of carrot juice) so i swang it out and heard a bang then the windscreen fell out that was when i knew it was serious
i remember going over too the bus driver too ask if everyone was ok but was told the bus wasnt carrying any passengers (thank [zb]) i went and had a look at the damage (had too take pics with a disposable camera supplied by the insurance) n the drivers side rear end of the bus was gone and the emergency exit door from the bus was hanging off the trailer. called in to office too be told we know (news like this travels fast). police and the vehicle inspectorate did there jobs and was told there would no charges as it due too road conditions that was at fault mainly.
i was later told by the tm that the insurance wasnt paying up for the damage too the bus because the bus driver didnt have a bus licence, i know it went too court but dont what the outcome was as i left the firm because it was on its way out

where do i start.when i first passed my class 2 my first agency job was driving for sunlight. I tried to do a three point turn and reversed into a lamp post. second day out delivering for currys i took out a car with the tail swing in a 7.5. after that I thought id got the hang of it but just recently my scanny has taken a bit of a battering. I went down a pot hole and ripped the bumper off

I flattened the gatepost 2nd from right with swing on truck. When we were all stood round looking at what id done we read the plaque which had a date it was built and it worked out 113 years
Still get stick now

Clipped a few trees and signs with the mirrors, but who hasn’t?

Only other ‘proper’ accidents I’ve had while trucking were colliding with a bus shelter on my very first run out in a LHD low-loader with 4 axle rear steer swan neck on :open_mouth: . I was turning left out of a tight junction and was concentrating so much on getting the trailer round that I’d forgotten I was sat on the left side of the cab, and so was actually 8ft closer to the bus shelter opposite the junction than I thought. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: It bent the bus shelter in half :astonished: and ripped off the entire o/s mirror fixture on the Scania.

But the worst one of all and by far the most embarrassing was when I drove over my OWN CAR with my truck.        . I’d finished for the week and pulled my car up at the passenger side to offload all my gear into, then the gaffer asks me if I can move the truck over a bit to the left. Jumped in the truck and set off forwards with full left lock to bring the trailer across… CRUNCH!!! The truck step had taken a huge chunk out of the rear wing and door panel, and the corner of the skellie trailer went straight through the rear window and distorted the window frame as well. I was ■■■■■■■ raging :imp: .

That should give you all a good laugh for years to come    . Let’s see who else has got the balls to admit their biggest ‘epic fails’ .

3 years ago, 4 day old DAF CF with lift axle. Turning left into our yard I hit a Transit panel van parked opposite with tailswing - opened the side of the van like a can of sardines :open_mouth:  Lesson learnt.

A couple of recent ones. I was on paternity leave for the first one, honest!

LOL @ the bloke in the last pic.

Ok, I’ll bite. I managed to hit the ground with the passenger side of my truck!

I had just bought said truck a couple of months before, it was a bit special (to me anyway, it was a 2-year old 2550 V8 Actros Executive, ex-demo) and I had spend a good few grand having it painted (the only one of mine that has ever had a paint job) and getting the alloys re-finsihed etc. It had heated leather seats and all the usual toys etc. Looked minted when it came into the yard for the first time!

I took it out on it’s first job, hooked up to a brand spanking new schmitz euroliner loaded with chipboard … and about 10 miles into the journey promptly put it on it’s ribs at a fair old speed, after getting a bit of a wobble on in a corner.

I don’t remember much of the accident itself other than regaining consiousness for around a minute shortly after the fire brigade removed me from the cab, though I do remember that I knew the accident was going to happen about 5 or so seconds before it actually went over. It cost me a small fortune, as well as two broken vertebrae which have never healed properly and still give me grief on a cold morning.

The insurance covered most of it, but I was still gutted as both tractor unit and trailer were written off, and what I got for the tractor unit was nothing like what it owed me. :frowning:

about 10yrs ago i was going through some roadworks on the m1 in a day old daf cf,the truck in front hit a cone which flipped in front of me,i had no chance to miss it so it went straight under the bumper taking half the spoiler and 1 foglight with it,the cone ended up between the chassis rails standing the right way up,felt a bit of pillock going back to the yard with half the spoiler missing.
