No just Dafs can’t build an engine with any ■■■■■■■■ in it every daf I’ve driven couldn’t pull your ■■■■■■■■ back.
The old 2800 wasn’t too bad at all but then that was with a bit of help from Leyland to do it.Although at that time ‘over the pond’ 300 + horses was considered about right for a bus.
But Mercs were always guaranteed to match that description more than Dafs at least the ones I drove.

Or apple’s to lemons maybe. Lol.
Joking apart, my new Pete is an awesome truck in every other respect but I do miss my big ol’ rip snorting Cat. It had 336 rear ends and the power to pull them. I could drop out of high split in top gear at over 80mph! Ah happy days. One of the old boys drives it now.

Maybe a case of the older drivers using seniority to keep hold of the good old wagons instead of wanting a ‘new’ ‘improved’,downsized, more economic, more environmentally friendly,pc one .
Although it could have had a 600 ■■■■■■■ put in the new one instead which would have done both jobs of getting up the hills quicker and keeping the environmental lot happy in which case wire might have been able to keep the good old dozer powered one. .

I remember when Dave arrived how he was the only family member that could work and the only one that had a driving license. See how well they all did.
Ah those were the days lol, now got 8 vehicles as a family and have any of you seen my wife’s driving

I’ll have nothing said bad about your wife’s driving as I think she does a fine job back from the bar mate

Seconded, never been a sober passenger so can’t complain at all
Anyway her driving is better than your high jumping over garage door laser beams
Carryfast, sorry but ■■■■■■■ are crap, the emissions systems on the ISX are the most unrelaible on the market, the variable geometry turbos are forever breaking up, they wip out camshafts for fun because the tolerances are too tight, in short they’re boat anchors
In fact the only two engines worth looking at here are the Detroit DD series and the Paccar MX, the Volvo lumps are nearly as bad as the ■■■■■■■ and in the case of the D16, that could be the worst diesel engine ever made, no pull, terrible economy and they make a Leyland 500 series look reliable The Navistar (International) engine that doesn’t use SCR has been banned, yes banned, they cannot, by law, make anymore because it doesn’t meet EPA regulations, what an epic fail that is

8!
I just got shot of the Explorer as someone very unpleasant knew of it and there was some risk involved in keeping it. Also, I need to get a…
I can hardly bring myself to say it…
A… Gulp… Minivan.
4 kids now. No room in the explorer for them all.
May have to get a pickup as well. Preferably a very slow one as the eldest has started driving now.

Never had any problems with my FH and out pulled most on the road with the same weight on and worked out of this world with the i-shift box
There are some real wackos about. This one had others doing the checking and is a real piece of work. Wasn’t so bad but his mother posed the kids by the car and took a pic then put it online.
But considering the lady managed to hit the neighbours car today I’m thinking of buying her one of the Fiats.
As for the minivan, in German it’s called “bagzovroomforshagginkin”

At least you didn’t see me do that but I do have to see her driving Glad she doesn’t come on these forums

Yes 8 but the family has also grown by 2 so not as bad as it sounds. 2 pick ups, 1 suv, 1 van, 1 jeep and 3 cars.
Yeah, I remembered that afterwards. Can’t say it is bad anyway. I had 2 on my own for a time. I almost regret selling the Explorer in some ways. Getting too old to clamber in and out of the Buick…
And the damned thing is too lively for the lady of the house. I almost have to be loaded before I get in the passenger seat… Also, the stepdaughter managed to hit the ditch in the Explorer at Christmas, then the other side of the ditch… then the fresh air… then the field. How the hell we stayed upright I don’t know.
And the miserable sods say your lady’s driving is questionable…?

Not surprising as some say the EPA is trying to make engines put out cleaner air than they take in and I don’t think that diesel engines were ever invented to be air purifiers.
Seriously it’s probably time to start thinking about ditching diesel technology and getting back to good old fashioned spark ignition engines running on LPG only which at least would give the manufacturers a chance. It’s then just a case of optimising the amount of forced induction up to the limits which the (better than petrol) octane rating of the stuff can accept, without blowing holes in the pistons,in order to get the BMEP figures somewhere near to where diesels were.Which is what the Ozzies are (rightly) working on now.Ironically using converted Merc diesel engines.

To start off with I thought the thread was about information on moving to Canada not a my trucks better than yours. On this point I would like to make this comment No one in their right mind would buy a Merc engined truck unless they are looking at keeping it for life they have no resale value, parts are expensive and they are pigs.
But to get on with the thread. The comments made by the posters in the Maritimes from what I read they have been correct in what they say. Work there is poorly paid and they are the highest taxed in the country it is not the best place to move to unless you have no need to work.
I go there on a regular basis and speak to a few that have moved there and regret it they all have said that the province has made it impossible for them to move elsewhere by taking any savings they have had in the bank. Not only that I think it is a case of once bitten twice shy why risk even more cash tramping around looking for the milk and honey land. One poster said that he moved to the Maritimes 10 years ago I think I am right in saying that back then they had no pnp or lmo bulls*** happening so he would have to do it all on his(their) own backs which in my mind takes some guts. All of you that have moved over here on the pnp lmo schemes should hang your heads in shame , you come over with employment given to you with the safety net that you will get the airfare refunded to you IF you take a job from a Canadian. Do it at a rate lower than should be paid live in the truck and be grateful for it, Companies love this lets import bodies from abroad thing as they really don’t have to work at getting good old Nationals to do the driving bit and use them in the office. How come you hardly ever see a brit in the office it because the owners would rather have you mugs out there living in their trucks while making a good amount of cash from you.
The way I see it any information anyone can give to someone who is thinking of moving to Canada is good be that the truth (which seems to offend )some of you or the rose tinted glasses that the others seem to favour.
As for the comment that if you don’t like it you should back your bags and shove off back to the home country I for one and I’m not alone in this wish you all would then we might get a decent rate for the job because you lot would not be here doing it on the cheap.
Just in case I have upset any of you I really don’t give a ■■■■ and as a 57 year old Canadian with 30+ years of driving experience not a couple like most of you guys I have a right to make a comment.
