I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone in advance for their contributions on this website. I am currently in the process of learning everything I can to gain my Cat C licence but also to become as good a driver I can be. I recently passed my theory test getting 91 & 92 in each of the HPT & Multiple choice. Just booked the module 2 so fingers crossed.
Since I have found this website I have learnt soooooo much, that’s on top on the materials which I forked out for, which has given me confidence and determination to get there. This is such a great site because of the quality of help & the genuine interest in everyone from aspiring/new drivers to experienced/retired drivers. It already feels like I’m part of something before I’ve even got my licence.
I’m sure with my determination and this website (including its members) I can get my Cat C and hopefully be on the roads, doing something I enjoy giving other drivers the nod,
Thanks again & all the best to you all,
Chris M
P.S Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I didnt feel the need to start a new thread and didn’t notice an ‘introduce yourself’ section

Snap, also just at the start and in the Glasgow area. Have my Class 2 provisional, and have booked my Module 1 theory and hazard. Friend of a friend recommended Ritchies, so that’s where I’ll be going too. This site has been a huge help to me, and will no doubt continue to be as I work my way up to my Class 1.

Are you doing your class 2 then working on that for a while before doing class 1? I was really wanting to get them both at similar time but the cost and pressure might be too much reading the advice on here.

Did you find a cheap doctor in glasgow mate?
The current plan is to get both. I’ve got family helping me with the cost, but I’ll see how my Class 2 goes before fully committing. Might be too much pressure, but also might be best to do it while still in learning mode.
Nah, I was an idiot and paid my local (■■■■■■■■■■■■ doctor £90. Could have been worse, but could have been better
I’m just starting on my journey to hopefully becoming and HGV driver. I’ve passed my medical and sent off for my provisional and eager to get going, starting with Cat C and then hopefully moving straight into C+E.
I’ve short listed 4 training companies in Kent that I want to visit and have an assessment drive before parting with the hard earned. Had plenty of brokers on the phone that have promised the earth for a pittance, strange that they all seem to work out of the same business address!
I’ve seen a couple of reviews for Kent Metro and Alan’s HGV, but wonder if anyone has had experience of Amber Driver Training in Herne Bay and Gordon Springate in Maidstone?
Any comments good or bad would be greatly appreciated as I’m hoping to kick this off in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks ROG,
I’ve checked that link previously which takes you directly to their websites, unfortunately I couldn’t see any testimonials on the Gordon Springate site and it would also be good to get some feedback on Amber Driver Training which isn’t on the list and again no testimonials on their site?
My nighbour trained at gordon springate 2 to 1x instructor both past their test in 5 days. I have had trial drive with kent metro slap box 4 gears left and 4 gears right basically, i have also trialed A-CLASS Gillingham 4 over 4 who i found very good had me out nearly an hour in the medway towns, and have booked an assesment with gordon spribgate this Monday 9th, i have a job, and am doing things steady, older driver with 7.5 t rights, therefore have a digi card and done me dcpc, dated to 2019. I have a terminally relative and wont go for practical untill this relative is seen from our world. Metro £1388 A-CLASS £1110 Springate £1288 All have qouted
Springate is 2 to 1 instructor mon-fri, A-class is 5 days 1 to 1, 4 hours a day with 12 min coffe stop only Metro is 3 days test next morning hope this helps.
They will also hold prices untill end of March for me with what i am going through.

Dave_890,
Thanks for the information, sorry to hear about your relative.
Hopefully I should get my provisional licence by next weekend then I can arrange a few assessment drives, I suppose there is no substitute for trying yourself. Have you decided who you are going to use yet?
A-class despite being cheapest were very good, and are right by the lgv2 test station yard at gillingham, so straight on the test routes, its an older y reg but the gears go in lovely well maitained 10.5m long, so would get used to watching the back wheels more on tight turns, i struggled with the slap box a bit, so will probably deal with that one when i get thrown, one once passed and working, still got springate to try but thats a big difference in money, and my recent neighbour knows many guys living in medway towns who have actually passed with peter 1st time at A-CLASS, although he went with Gordon, hence the trial.
Its a mine feild where you put the hard earned. I will make a decision after Mondays trial.

Cheers Dave,
It would be good to hear your feedback after Mondays trial.
Well as promised, i have now trialed 3 in this south east corner. Gordon springate win as they have a full size reversing unit laid out as the vosa test centre within the kent county showground, but when ready to book, if the dates have gone i have booked off, i will go with a-class, i am booked off work for this 19th March till 27th, but if my ill relative passes on close to this date springate may not have the slot, i would then not heziate on a-class if available. Obviously dont want the worry of the ill relative while on training. Big difference in price, but happy to pay springate if available as said, do have 3 trial drives as the last one asked what i had drove and i said me work transit, but after the trial asked if i had other trials, and said he thought so because i was forward on no clipping with rear wheels etc, and very good on mirrors, just shows its a little experience when added up, k.m. out 50 mins, a-class out 45 mins springate out 30 mins, all helps.

Dave,
Thanks for the update, I know Springate do advertise that reversing facility on their website. Would you be doing a 1 to 1 with them or 2 to 1? I must admit I do prefer the sound of 1 to 1. Hopefully you get to start on your preferred dates, I’m just itching to get my licence back but unfortunately the boiler has failed this weekend so it looks like I’ve got a significant payout on a replacement which has thrown a spanner in the works.
Sorry to hear about the boiler, i will learn 1-1 for 4 hrs, over 5 days, 20 hrs in all both springate and a-class offer this, metro wanted it all day a bit much for the grey matter i think.

Yes 4 hours per day sounds about right, I think anymore than that would be a bit testing when you’re learning. Was there any difference in cost for doing 1-1 with Springate rather than 2-1?
